Next time some friend ask me why I so stubbornly refuse to pass to console gaming, I'll point to this whole story.

Congratulations for a well deserved "victory".

Not stop the booze celebrations and give us our game! *whips*

Promotional wise, this has only just started. I heard about this from sxephil's channel on youtube. As a Fallout fan and gamer who knows his gaming history, I'm very glad a Wasteland sequel is being made. Wish the team all the best on this endeavor.

All those RPG nerds from the 80's turned out to be successful economists and businessmen? ;)

I'm in lawschool but I had to back this. :)
A Wasteland team is, by default, going to be much of the same team from the first two Fallout games, working on what is essentially a new installment of the Fallout series.

A huge congrats everyone!

I've never played wasteland, (was 4 when it came out) but I grew up with fallout 1 and 2.

Happily going to donate 250$ tonight. Okay, 265 - yay Canada shipping :(.

Totally psyched to see Mark Morgan involved. His music absolutely set the tone for the fallouts and his interviews really showed how excited and involved with the projects he was. I'm sure he won't have time to read these threads, but I hope he gets the props that he deserves (as the music/ambiance for these projects tend to fly under the radar).

This Kickstarter trend is exciting. Sort of a modern patron system combined with technologically supported crowd-sourcing. While I can't see it catching on much for unknown developers/IPs, people will go all-in to re-live parts of their youth with awesome projects like this.

Changing the $2500 reward and adding more slots to the top tier were both brilliant moves.

This is great! if only we could of done this 5 years ago... better late than never though right.

I never played the original BTW but cut my RPG teeth on Fallout and Baldurs gate, its been too long since we've had that sort of RPG.

The beginning of a new golden age for CRPG's

Postby Richard Blackrose » March 18th, 2012, 6:25 am

Thanks to Brian's vision and the fan's enthusiasm and support Wasteland 2's success is inspiring others. Chris Avellone has already been making noises about a Planescape KS and now in a new GameSpy interview with Beamdog/Overhaul's Cameron Tofer, he talks about a KickStarter for BG3 after the new enhanced BG's are released. Specifically: "We're totally thinking Kickstarter. It just makes so much sense and solves so many problems. I think what Brian [Fargo] is doing with Wasteland is very interesting."

Brian's tweet was right on the mark, it's bigger than Wasteland, it's a movement.

Let's just hope devs don't get too carried away by Tim and Brian's successes. My pockets are only so deep.
And as Tim mentioned in one of his interviews, Him doing an PnC Adventure game is a great "story". Which Brian Fargo doing a Wasteland 2 also is. The projects have to have an air of credibility to them which only comes with a legend like Brian Fargo or Tim Schafer.

Hurray for Wasteland 2 being well on it's way to 1.5M though :D

Any word on development cycle time? I dont remember seeing if all the money above $900k was going to make it take longer, which I'm sure it will with all the added stuff.

From the Kickstarter page:

We’re planning on an initial 6 months of pre-production. We’ll nail down every important element that you, our creative partners, want. Once we have all that figured out, we buckle down for 12 month development cycle.

But we’re looking ahead to what we can do if you all back this project in force. At $1.25 million, the money will go primarily into making the world bigger, adding more maps, more divergent stories and even more music.

At $1.5 million, the world gets even bigger. You’ll have more adventures to play, more challenges to deal with, and a greater level of complexity to the entire storyline. We’ll add more environments, story elements, and characters to make the rich world come alive even more. We will even be able to bring Wasteland 2 to OS X and Linux! And after $1.5 million the sky is the limit.

I just wanted to say thanks.

Postby Bill » March 21st, 2012, 7:23 am

I posted this on a facebook message, but I figured it'd work here as well.

Hey there, I'm the guy that suggested the Stackpole novella. All I can say is wow, I'm amazed by this. It's very heartwarming to see people come together likes this. But what's more impressive in my eyes is that you're actually giving us what we want. For years I've listened to false promises from developers until I just stopped caring about something that'd been my passion since I was a child. So thank you Mr Fargo, it means a great deal to me. Especially because Wasteland was the first RPG I ever played and gave me the ideals about what a good one should be.

I really wish I could donate to the kickstarter, I'm on government support as a full time carer for my mother. I'm planning to sell some of my collected records in an effort to get into as high a bracket as I'm able, I'm aiming for the $250/500 area and if I can do it; I'll happily give you all of it.

Thank you again, thank you for making my childhood richer, thank you for not giving up and thank you a for listening to us.
