Banner concept art

Didn't know which subforum to place this, but it should fall under "mood".

In midst of all the heated debate on LGBTQ and what not, I thought we could discuss something as non-heated and innocent as the banner concept art from the Kickstarter page. I really like those pieces. My favorite ones would have to be:

Simply a kick ass location for a post-apoc game. The tone reminds me of Dune 2.

EDIT: I guess it's the Ranger Center? I haven't played Wasteland, but some research told me it's a prison turned into a ranger base.

This one I like a lot because it implies lost history. A razed and overgrown city. I also like the fact that it's very different from anything we've seen in Fallout. Promises variation in the environments.

What do you think? Which ones are your favorites?

I agree. Those are the two best pieces up there. Especially the green. Not a hint of browny-gray anywhere.

The compound does indeed look very prison-like, and similar to how I would have pictured a re-imagined Ranger Centre (although the original looks awful like a hospital). Perhaps a crusted white paint job would reconcile the two more perfectly? Additionally I would have liked a little more saturation in that banner. The common representations of Arrakis (seeing as you mention Dune) have semi-bright orange dunes that are both desolate and suffocatingly rich (with spice), which offers a lot more character than the dusty lifelessness of Fallout, nicely fits in with the original Wasteland's garish colour scheme, while at the same time oozing with the sense of hazard and abrasive power.

For the benefit of those who have not played the original game, the relevant excerpt from manual is:

Shortly after the nuclear attack began, the Engineers, seeking shelter, took over the federal prison and expelled the prisoners into the desolate desert to complete their sentences. As the weeks passed, they invited the nearby survivalist communities to join them and to help them build a new society. Because of each communities' suspicions towards one another, times were difficult at first. But as time nurtured trust, this settlement -- which came to be known as Ranger Center(sic.) -- grew to be one of the strongest outposts. Ranger Center(sic.) even proved powerful enough to repel the hands of rancorous criminals who repeatedly attacked in attempts to reclaim what was once 'rightfully theirs'.
