Probably, if WL2 is put on GoG; I would assume it would be part of the installer.

You know what my mother hates? Mandatory binding arbitration and the requirement to sign away your right to enter into a class action suit.

I'm not joking, she thinks that's some serious bullshit.

EA is deserving of a little hatred. They have some serious changes to make before this would bring me back to the bargaining table. I'll grudgingly accept bad advertising, but jumping on AT&T Mobility v. Concepcion like a hyena on a gazelle was sick, changing all my EULAs to include Origin's TOS and privacy policy likewise, making me afraid to complain in the prescribed manner because (a) it would mean confirming my compliance with said TOS and PP and (b) they could summarily deny me access to games I purchased from them for drawing their attention (yes, games I won't install for said reasons, but there's a method to my madness), and creating trouble for their gaming studios such that established and successful combinations of talent are hemorrhaging and heading elsewhere* and...
Look, we have our damn reasons to hate EA. It's not like we don't hate Enron and Magnetar as well, but this isn't a financial forum. It's a gaming forum.

That said, my immediate, Wasteland-centric EA concerns are probably (and hopefully) unfounded.

*Good for us, bad for EA and the studios

Maybe they could offer a buy-back program. Perhaps inXile and/or EA should start searching for copies on eBay. Commodore 64 and Apple ][ copies occasionally pop up there, too.

As for original source code, well, that's anybody's guess. I have Ken St. Andre's original maps and scenario design notes, if that'll help with reconstruction (ha, I know it won't but still, it reminded me...). He was gonna toss 'em and I offered to be his best friend forever if he instead saved them and or scanned them for us to look at. Instead, he mailed 'em to me. I should get off my butt and scan those puppies in while inXile is still coding WL2. Maybe they can recycle some ideas they didn't use for WL1. Hm, now there's an idea!

I'd say that'd be a capital idea since inXile is looking for ideas. Maybe get in touch with Either Brian or Ken and see if they could use them.

As for the hate against EA, well they've burned a lot of people; myself included. It is completely awesome that they are allowing Wasteland 1 to be bundled with Wasteland 2; it does show they aren't all machine.

Given the impossibility of legally acquiring a copy of Wasteland, this is fantastic news.

I actually have a copy of the original Wasteland lying around somewhere in an old crate of floppy disks (probably broken/unplayable/damaged to be quite honest)... so the inclusion of it with Wasteland 2 is certainly an incentive I'm truly grateful for.

Been meaning to play through it again.

EA's bad reputation is begining to hit them in the pocket book. They want to be viewed as a publisher willing to support and provide the artistic freedom and support to small development companies (especially when the inde. game market is begining to take off). Wasteland gives EA the perfect opportunity to do this. EA probably asked for very little to allow WL1 to be packaged with WL2. I belive EA thinks the WL crowd is the best point to start rebuilding thier reputation.
For the sake of enjoying a game you guys seem to have too much knowledge of too many things.

Really good news. It will be a plus for sales, and also excellent for fans. I'm pleased to know that younger fans will have a chance to experience the origin.

By the way, I have a C64/128 retail box in the living room, but not too likely to fire up that one again!

This is excellent news.

Two questions...

1) Will it work with the Linux version?

2) Will the sounds be the PC version's? I am guessing "yes", which is too bad, since the C64 sounds were far superior

Oh, that sounds like some pretty great stuff indeed. Does the Wasteland 2 team know that these exist? Well, besides Ken St. Andre probably having a pretty good idea.

Cool. Any word on how this will be bundled? I'm mainly asking from the physical/Collector's Edition perspective. Will it be a separate disc or maybe a USB drive or something?

My guess would be that you would need to run some kind of DOS emulator. I can't imagine that they'd recode (recompile?) it for Linux. Especially since I would guess that the license is just for providing it, not editing it.

I would guess yes. Heh. Part of me wonders if EA is just going to download a copy from Abandonia and give that to inXile. :P

It'll be a cold day in Hell before I trust EA again ... but I do trust Brian. If he says my money won't go to animal testing and orphan blood harvest, I believe him.
