POLL: As funding continues... What's next?!

Postby Joby » March 15th, 2012, 9:47 am

We've already announced that if we can get to $1.5M we'll be able to focus on porting to Mac and Linux. As funding continues to be strong, we are curious what other "additions" you would like us to explore?

We will take your suggestions very seriously. Please tell us your Top 5.

Larger world, more dialog and quests. That's all I need. Better graphics are always a plus.

There's no option for it, but artwork like portraits for NPCs or icons for equipment is good, while "3d textures and models" I can live without.

Agreed with emphasis on dialogue but without voice actors (so I hope by audio you mean music and sound effects such as shots being fired, someone being punched, wind blowing, etc.) As for graphics, I don't care much although a change of weather that could affect a player would be nice.

Yeah that's what I meant. No voice actors!

Great idea! Thanks, I've added the option. I also allow everyone to change their votes if something like this is added and you'd prefer to vote for it rather than your previous options.

Yes I think the most important thing is substance. A fleshed out world with many quests and npc.

Other things like 3d models, textures and localization are things which the community can fix via modding.

I've voted for expanded audio (please, don't do full voice acting, perhaps only narrator or something) and character dialogue, however I'm equally enthusiastic about having a much larger world with lots of content thrown in here and there. Plus the artwork and better models, oh yes.

Also - I think language change is a bad idea. Our own experience showed us there will be plenty of people willing to translate the game. Maybe if Wasteland 3 gets released, sure, but this time let's use the budget to make a larger, longer world.

And some sort of modkit would be great. Being able to construct your own maps, add in dialogue, change character sprites... I ain't much of a modder, but I always play with these things, and there's plenty of us who like to mod the game.

Good luck to the InXile team :)

A larger world, more quests would be nice.

What I'd like to see (not sure if it fits under "better graphics" or it's already a given) is the weapon/equipment choices reflected on the character models.

I'm not sure how a cRPG would feel on a portable device, the ones I've seen so far are ok-ish but control can be messy, unless the active areas on the screen are strictly limited (e.g. Final Fantasy where players choose actions from a menu, but even there, in the larger world controls can be iffy). Mass Effect Infiltrator, which looks great, is a mess control-wise, but its real-time so that's a different category.

Now that I mentioned Infiltrator, it might be interesting, if the project gets really massive funding (which I honestly hope it does), to have short stories playable on portable devices that could tie in to the main (or some side) plot of Wasteland 2 (I imagine iPad or mobile phones acting like "Pip-Boys").

edit, re: updated vote options: Can we have "more character dialogue lines, without voice acting", perhaps?

8-Bit version is a must have, not only for us oldies but to keep the timeline in work. IIRC there was an Apple ][e to be found in Las Vegas on which Wasteland 2 was running. So, there MUST BE an 8-bit version. Also, my good old C64 is so hungry for it, and i know a lot of people who would die for it.

Maybe there should be a "Modding Kit" option as well. I for once would still prefer a fleshed out game from the start but when you think about what people like SureAI did with the Oblivion Moddingkit I wouldn't miss this possibility for the world!

By the way, I just cast my vote and I still have the option to vote, maybe there's a slight glitch there?

OK! I'm running out of options to add (10 item limit) and adjusting options seems to have shifted some votes around. The latest addition was mod kits. I can't update more, so I'll leave it at this.

Sorry for any oddities, but please review and update your choices!

Though I wouldn't mind a C64 version at all (My C64 is also ready to play it) I would rather have the team focus on expanding the game world and then port it to C64. Though I do agree, a C64 would be beyond awesome.

Yeah except "more dialogues" option is combined with voice acting... But so you wouldn't have to change it again let me write it (let's call it) "manually":
1) More dialogues
2) Bigger world and more interesting places to explore

These two things have the highest priority in my book.

Yeah I agree with this. More dialogues but not voice acted. The only thing that could be nice is voice acted dialogues between party members. You know, some funny lines when some party members don't like each other or comments when you enter a new location or some situational one liners.
