MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC. Please don't let the music in this game take a back seat to everything else. The awesome ambiance in Fallout 1 and 2 was all about music. My office is dark, I'm leaned forward at my keyboard, and the words "Brian Fargo presents" scroll across the screen and then the music starts then into the "War...." speech, It was an OH WOW moment for me that set the tone for the rest of the game. Please don't think of the music as something to be thought about after the game is made. Thanks;-p

Mark Morgan's doing the music. It won't take a back seat to anything.

Even more mood!! This guy could bring so much colour to this game. At least consider have him play a few pieces.

since the timeframe should be somewhat 80ish i would love some reggae or dancehall, since it was the golden era of this kinda music and it would fit a post apo setting. i shot the sheriff LOL

God no...

@Hellmaister: I would rather see that kind of music blended with the overall composition style, to offer a more homogeneous and personal mood, like Fallout did, remember :O :

I'm so in love with Fallout's soundtrack ^^, and I deeply hope Mark Morgan would achieve to do as good as that. When will we hear some?! :P

Somehow when I think 80s I recall Jackson, Tiffany, and hair bands. Not reggae. There should be a New Kids on the Block gang much akin to the Kings fro FO:NV.

If I combine "80s" and "post-apocalyptic", I think first and foremost of Joy Division, Talking Heads, The Cure, Alien Sex Fiend and the like.

Yes indeed. You have to agree that this type of music will suit the game perfectly! It is exactly how I picture my gang when they wander around in the world. Whenever they walk into a new town or discover a big abandoned mine or whatever, I want to hear a sweet banjo blues lick to set me in the right mood 8-)

I was listening to "Journey of the Sorceror" by the Eagles and it evoked a mood I felt was appropriate for WL2, especially the first few minutes of the song.
When I closed my eyes listening to it I imagined a dry desert, a harsh landscape, wide open spaces... perfect!

Don't forget that it was featured as the theme music to Douglas Adams' The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the BBC radio show and TV series, that is.

Ratt - Round and Round <- what i imagined bein' played on the jukebox as the knifers attacked

Nothing exemplifies the concept of Wastemetal quite like Hair, early Thrash, and pain ol' heavy metal and hard rock. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Testament, Kreator, Poison, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Twisted Sister, Dio, Def Leppard, and AC/DC...

Maybe even moreso than the music, what sets the mood for me are ambient sounds; wind blowing, people talking amongst themselves, wildlife noises, etc. This is used to great effect in Planescape, especially when you get close to markets in the city.
