wha... no Day Z topic yet?

Postby sorophx » May 1st, 2012, 1:50 pm

are all of you really going to miss the greatest zombie survival multiplayer project of the decade? :o

yes, it's a mod (based on ArmA2 Combined Operations), yes, it's still in the alpha stage, but already available to public. it's a bit rough on the edges, but it has great potential

I'm not going to try and convince you to buy ArmA2 just to play this mod. but trust me; when you'll launch it for the first time, you'll shit bricks

it's not really about the zombies (though it can become very scary at night). but about the other players, some of which are psychopaths and will stop at nothing trying to hunt you down and kill you for your food cans

It looks like it could be fun, reminds me a bit of STALKER gameplay. I just don't like the idea of spending hours building up a character and collection supplies just to have someone kill me and then having to start from scratch.

that's the thing that draws in the most people, though. a lot of gamers had been waiting for a hardcore survival game, and then it finally arrived

Yeah... but that they should have alternative servers for those of us who don't FPS as much. I used to back in the days of Golden-Eye-Perfect Dark then quite a bit for SOFII but it just got old shooting people over and over. Now I'm getting old and my reflexes aren't what they used to be when I played FPS games more often. Every so often I'll play the campaign on something using easy mode but that's about it, if it has a good story line. Seems like a wast of 50 bucks for an 8 hour campaign on many of these games coming out today. :(

This mod is amazing, it's like a hardcore STALKER except all the psychos are actual people who want your tin of beans. If the modder polished it up some more (I realize it's in alpha ) then I reckon it could be the best zombie game ever made.

By the way, the modder has said that this mod is compatible with ARMA 3.

not entirely true. ArmA3 is built using new technology, so while it's possible, it's not as easy as it would seem at first. the devs said it would take a year or more. and by the time ArmA3 rolls out, they'll probably be already making a stand-alone game out of it.

I'm fairly sure he said a standalone version was definitely not going to happen in the immediate future. It costs a lot of money to make maps as big and as detailed as ARMA's.

It's fucking incredible. You know the zombie game that everyone imagined right when zombies were first a thing, that nobody ever came close to?

That's what this is. I've never seen a game do a better job of making players act like real survivors of a zombie apocalypse. The simple paranoia of leveling your gun at another player and asking if he's friendly is delicious, because you genuinely can't tell most of the time, and he could unmake hours of work. The whole game is made up of similar moments of glorious agony. It's a whirring, humming drama engine that spits out a wholly new and unfailingly compelling story every time.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
