I have been preaching this since the late 90's, for creators to cut their ties with industries that throttle creativity and bottleneck funding and profits.

I know this is a paradigm shift. I sensed Kickstarter's possibilities with JourneyQuest, then saw the amazing stuff with Order of the Stick... and by the time Double Fine's campaign was like ten hours old I was already tossing out the word "revolution" as potentially apt.

I'm giddy.

I believe we all hope that this sends a clear message to big developers and that more great games will be funded in a similar fashion in the future. Thanks to all who pledged and will pledge - there's still 33 days left.

As great as it is, I just hope we're not going to see hundreds of project suddenly show up like shrooms after the rain. I need money for food, too, you know? 1 project a month is my limit 8-)

yeah, even though I've pitched in quite a bit for a couple of these now, I must admit I'm going to be quite picky about the stuff I submit backing to going forward. not too interested in getting burned on the first of these that never end up materialising. but something like wasteland 2, man. it's impossible to resist it. it's a dream game. it really is

I think that would be awesome, if that happen the fans can decide what gets made and what doesn't not the publishers. True that this sought of development isn't really suitable for your "block buster" $20 million to develop games but the models is good for this sought of games and others that find it hard to get funding from publishers due to niche markets.

TBH, I'm not sure how eager I'd be to fund a Kickstarter project by unproven devs. With respect to -this- project, I still have very fond memories of not only Wasteland, but Neuromancer -- another Interplay project. And while I never actually played any of the BG series for whatever reason, the overall track record of the team is impressive.

Plus, I'm not a poor college student (given the nostalgia factor, it would not be surprised if the WL2 demographic skews a bit older...), and can easily afford my pledge. *Time* and attention is what's more valuable to me (even now, after midnight locally for me, I'm remotely monitoring a couple of processes related to my employment in case things go wonky...), and that means I'm willing to pay to help ensure *quality*. That's something I can expect from this project.

I never thought we would fail. I'm really looking forward to the release of the "You will never pull this off!" emails. In your face fat cats!
I think $2 million is a goal we may achieve. But to do that we need more coverage. I really hope that some ink based medias pick up the story as well.
What I don't understand is that there is no Paypal possible. I think there would be at least 30% more backers if Paypal was not excluded. Maybe we can do something about that?

If funding keeps growing like this, you will have no problems making it one hell of a game! :D

And you know what's the funniest part? It was only in the first two days. We still have 33 days to go! I can only imagine what the total funding will be!

All those publishers who denied funding Wasteland 2 must be wanting to kick themselves so hard right now

This is definetely the way to do it. If you want to play the games you deserve to play, then this is the way.

This is the ultimate evidence the genere is far from dead. Let's stop big publishers from deciding what we get to play and support the games that we really want to play.

I feel that Brian should update the kickstarter page with some more info on what more they'll do with extra money. Mac/Linux version of the game is nice and all, but it won't entice those people that don't use them. Some real concrete information (other than just "we'll make it bigger!" would probably spur people to donate an extra few thousand dollars.

I am very much looking forward to this! Don't care about osx/linux version, but I hope this project will raise atleast twice the amount it has now. Some more info about where to go from here would surely help in that regard.

Congratulations to inXile and all the backers. It seems to me 1.5 million is quite achievable, with a full 32 days to go.

And I'm confident that, once inXile delivers a worthy successor to the game that made gamers out of so many of us, we will be able to say that we were part of the project that changed, if not forever, at least significantly, the way games are funded.

We live in interesting times.

I would estimate around 2M. Ofc if you can kick in hype like DF did in last week it's quite achivable.

Is there more point and click adventure fans than "point and click" rpg fans?
