Is Tim Cain going to be contributing on this?

Suggestions for what Wasteland 2 should or could include.

Is Tim Cain going to be contributing on this?

Postby Cutter » April 25th, 2012, 7:59 pm

Let's face it, besides Chris this has Tim Cain written all over it. Maybe toss in some Leonard Boyarsky? And a heaping spoonful of Clint Bajakian for music would be pretty sweet. I mean, there must be a lot of good old school talent out there that would love to contribute to this and would do so on a sliding scale.

No, Tim Cain is busy working on the South Park project. The only personnel from Obsidian working on this is Chris Avellone.

And what does Tim Cain have to do with this anyway? This isn't Fallout. They've already got literally the entire original design team of Wasteland working on this project. Why clutter that up with more people not associated with Wasteland?

Any good reason why he shouldn't? I don't see one.

I'm all for Tim Cain being a part of the project. But as the famous saying goes - "Too many cooks spoil the broth."

However, I'd love to have MCA, Fergus Uruqhart and Tim Cain work on a Planescape sequel if it ever comes to fruition.

Because Tim Cain is freaking awesome and he could help make the game better? This is the man who also created Arcanum and Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines.

Did you miss the part where he's busy working on another project?

I think you missed the point of this thread.

And there's no reason to be intentionally provocative. Settle down.

True, but perhaps he can give some simple ideas for the game. :p

Do you know how often someone makes a post that basically boils down to "oh boy, this is going to be a real Fallout 3 now, isn't it"? I'm sick and tired of people trying to make Wasteland into Fallout.

I'm pretty sure that won't stop, so you should probably stop caring so much about it pretty quick. Let everyone have their dreams of a "true fallout" - it's really no different than yours. It should be enough to know that they don't really have any say in it.

and thus I won't stop telling people to stop having stupid ideas. Better they be disappointed by some asshole on a forum than by the actual design team at inXile.

Tim Cain will not be working on this. Otherwise Brian would have certainly said something by now.

That is it, the question has been answered. Let this thread die... Or better yet, have a mod lock it.

Fallout one was actually Wasteland 2 but they weren't able to buy the rights to the name so they changed it to fallout.

Tim Cain formed Troika instead of work on Fallout 2 due to being very upset about the direction of fallout 2. I wouldn't want a guy who left on bad terms on my team even if he wanted to come back, and considering how much better Fallout 2 turned out that any troika game I'm not so sure he was all that and a bag of chips anyway. OTOH Chris Avelone (and Fargo for that matter) never has anything bad to say about anybody and both act professional, and almost everything they've been a part of has had great quality and actually been a finished product.

Well, get over it. I'm sure people are sick of your posts, too. And while I'm sure they care about input they aren't going to sit down and read every post and pick through every dumb idea. It would make for a terrible game to work that way. No doubt they mostly know what they want. Posting is more for fun that anything else - they aren't going to put any gay romance in the game just because biodrones beg for it.

I agree it should keep a lot of the old stuff like skills improving through use and puzzles and real exploration. Wasteland is one of my favorite games of all time, much better than Fallout in many ways, but it's 2012 they aren't going to make a fricken blobber.

Cain is working on South Park RPG. Boyarsky on Diablo 3. People aren't just freely available. The Obsidian deal is just about Chris for design-work (and tools).

There are some old-school familiar names that have come up as willing to make contributions. inXile will let everyone know as such opportunities become finalized.

Well, my point was that they were going to be bring in a lot of old school talent to work on individual missions. I seem to recall Brian saying that they're going to have the overarching story and said talent would be developing their own missions/quests inside of that. That being the case, I'd love to see Tim contribute something. There's room in the Wasteland for all. I wasn't expecting some sort of Spanish Inquisition....
