Something that is missing from many/most RPGs is a "celebration of Life". Pretty much every society or civilization sets aside a time and place for adults and children to just play. Modern civilization has built vast "cathedrals" to recreation in the form of Stadiums, playing fields, arenas, coliseums, etc. Harvest Faires, rock concerts, sporting events, athletic competitions, etc. all get scheduled and placed. Not all just-for-the-hell-of-it entertainment gets restricted to the stage at the saloon or in the Pit of Death for gladiator-type contests. Historically, whole villages would turn out to see which was better at simply kicking a ball around.

Where is all of ^^THAT^^ in the Wasteland? All work and no play makes Rangers dull boys and girls.

Maybe the occasional gambling, card game or arm wrestling? Playing a bluesy song on a campfire in a dark night? (Like in STALKER).

There, entertainment is good and all but hey, wasteland is about surviving in the wasteland.

Well, it's actually about maintaining the law in the wasteland. Survival is less of a problem, unless you move too far out into the wilderness.

For those who don't know I am referring to "Salute of the Jugger" or "Blood of Heroes" in the US.

If you can get the Aussie Salute of the Jugger version, it is better than the Blood of heroes version, which had a few minutes cut, and completely changes the way the story ends.

Game was essentially played around 5 players. Goal was to get a Dog skull onto a spike. First team to do it wins.

Quick was the only one who could touch the ball, and was fast and lightly armoured.
Metal/Chain was also lightly armoured, but had some sort of "chain" that he could swing around ensuring a certain degree of safety for the quick to hide in.
Then there were the three fighter types who basically bashed the crap out of each other and tried to get at and prevent the quick from scoring. Slash, Backslash and I don't recall the last one.

Gambling, unlike Sport or theatrical performances, has a _strong_ element of trying to make money, rather than simply participating for entertainment. Most Gamblers enter games of chance thinking that they stand a reasonable chance of "coming out ahead." (VERY few do. Those that approach Gambling as an actual occupation -- the House, mainly -- are the only ones to _consistently_ come out ahead. And considering all the different ways that odds of winning get "bent" by the pros (a.k.a., cheating), everyone else simply proves the adage, "A fool and his money is soon parted."

If there are other very specific ones you are looking for (strip poker mini game, etc) make sure to create another one and put it up for a vote.

I like the idea of arenas, russian roulette, drinking games, arm wrestling, shooting competitions, etc. I think that in the wasteland, cock fighting is probably common (remember to grease your zippers!) and many who are desperate would probably try their luck at a winner take all type of tourny... I mean, with nothing to lose (since you are starving to death anyway), why the hell not play Russian roulette

"even Russian toilette" I'm guessing that you already know the word should have been Roulette, as "toilette" is essentially washing your face.

It seems that pretty much ALL of your suggestions were aimed at violence or tools of violence (e.g. shooting). Life in the Wasteland is violent enough without adding organized mayhem to the menu. How about a simple game of baseball? Or soccer/futbol (football)? Or basketball? Or...? Regardless, ALL of these suggestions could be added to the background.

Yeah, damnable kindle fire touch autofill messes my stuff up. Those were all the less civilized or basic ones I could think of. I am sure that there would be regular games but none that really fit the theme as well as quick draws, poker, boxing and other wasteleand skill oriented games

What about the REAL hunger games. All contestants are starved for 6 days and then put into an arena with only enough food for 1.

I hated that tween movie. Speaking of regular sports, they might have changed a bit in the wastes... What about baseball, but the batter is allowed to round the bases with his / her bat.

In friendly civilized cities, classic games such as cards, soccer, make sense. Might be kicking a skull around, using mismatched deck of cards to get all 52 in a deck, etc.

I'm a nice guy, but civilization ( as we know it ) is at a halt.

Less civilized populations, such as slaver strongholds, etc. might see:

Wobble - racing slaves down a sloped street ( san fran ? ) inside a dryer drum and whoever jumps the most length at the bottom ( into a pile of rebar ) wins... make some money to pay off those drug debts

Eating contests - slaves are forced to eat as much as they can and if they can't eat 50 whatever ( cactus buds, maggots, rocks ) in 60 seconds they explode, etc.

Rat racing - random giant starving rats put into a maze chase down numbered slaves, odds similar to horse racing

I think more appropriately Civilization had been at a halt. It is "currently" starting to take the first deliberate steps towards Reconstruction and Restoration. (Brings new meaning to the phrase, "a little R & R". ) Having an organization out to restore Law & Order while NOT being pointedly an attempt to build an empire is a good indication that Civilization is finally making a comeback.

I think civilization is still something kept at bay by survival. If things were on the mend so fast, the rangers wouldn't have a job to do
