Where will missed shots go?

Postby Lazy Nomad » April 20th, 2012, 6:39 am

One thing I think Wasteland 2 needs to do that wasn't done in Wasteland 1 is to address what happens to missed shots. In the first game, there was nothing keeping you from going full auto with an assault rifle in the middle of a crowded bar. No one but your intended target was going to get hurt. But, of course, in real life, we know that all those missed shots have to go somewhere, so how about showing what happens to that poor sap (or even child) standing fifty feet down the street from the bandit you were shooting at? Give us a reason to be careful with our shots from time to time.

I just assumed that it would be handled ala Fallout and Fallout 2. Missed shots have a chance of hitting somebody else who's in the line of fire be it friend, enemy or frenemy.

Yes I assume the Fallout way would be quite accurate. Anything in the line of fire could get hit, friend or foe. ;)

In fallout 2 bullets your companions fired were MORE likely to hit you than the enemy, I swear, Vic will even fire at you at a 30 degree angle and stand there with an innocent face

Which is why you're able to sell your companions into slavery.

Another game that addressed such things was X-COM... usually the bullets either missed and struck a barn in the middle of nowhere or your teammates or other people (in terror missions) - usually buildings, but just hired recruits have an uncanny accuracy when it comes to shooting their own people.

This is pretty much necessary if you want burst/full-auto fire to actually do anything other than perforate a single enemy. I've played pnp rpgs where full auto could only be used on a single enemy, it was most annoying. Let those bullets fly every which way so everyone in a 90 degree arc is turned to swiss cheese!
