Steam Groups and Ranger Center

Postby Valka » April 10th, 2012, 5:16 pm

During the past week I attempted to find a decent Steam Group to join related to W2, and there just wasn't much. Some that had related names were inactive, unrelated, or both, so a couple of days ago I started a group called Ranger Center.

I took the time to try and set this up with decent links and basic info about Wasteland and the W2 kickstart as a way to at least make more of my friends aware of W2 development while there is still time to make an impact on development funding, and it has been at least a little successful so far.

If you are interested in doing something like this then please take a look at the new group. It would be excellent if members of this forum would like to join as a way to invite their friends also while we can still raise funding, but please understand that my first intention is to help promote W2, and feel free to use your own group to accomplish this. I just want you to know that you and your friends are most welcome to this public group!

I would prefer if we can keep potentially divisive dialogue here on the Wasteland Survival Guide, and at least for now let Ranger Center be a place for gamers to become interested in W2. It's fine that we all have our preferences and opinions, but for the present this forum is the best place to air those out. Later on I intend to maintain the group as a place of common interest for Steam friends to keep in touch about W2.

Thanks! :)

Thank you for creating the lovely steam group, mister.

I will try to not violate it with blood sausages. :geek:

Just joined the group.. Doesn't really do any good to make multiple groups.. It would just dilute them. Best to make one group and promote that one..

Thanks for joining. I've made an effort to keep links and announcements up to date so far, and I'll continue to try and announce most major W2 news through the group. It was mostly friends for the first few days, but new members are showing up daily now from all over and all continents.

This afternoon I replaced the Kickstarter link with the InXile store page. Fund raising related announcements are over, but I want to keep helping to promote interest in W2 among our friends by linking new concept art, interviews and the like, so please invite your friends if you wish.

I only signed up for Steam to active New Vegas. Thanks for making the only group I've joined. No idea where it may go from here, but at least I know I've got something in common with the other members and that's a good place to start.

Every time I log in there are more members. :D

It's good to have contact with other fans to wait with, and another resource for getting our friends to take interest. I will continue to post major announcements on the steam group, so that people who get out of the habit of checking in at the official site will at least get a nudge.

Joined. Though I'll probably be taking the "non-DRM" version on release.

Tomorrow will mark 2 months since our group was formed, and we hit 200 members today. Not a huge number, but still pretty good for an honest number of fans with no invitation spamming :)

When we hit 500 I'll see if we can't at least give away a digital copy of W2.

Make that 209 members to this group. Looking forward to what the future brings for us.

Thanks Samurai. You said the secret word, so you're our new Player of the Week ;)

Admittedly folks, Steam groups are not very exciting in themselves, and most groups are little more than symbolic, but this group does offer a few things for us. It shows support for the game, and provides another way that our friends can take become aware of Wasteland 2. Also, I realize that very many gamers cannot keep tabs on forums and blogs, so the group announcements make it more likely that members won't overlook milestones in the game's development, media releases, and so on.

And for what it's worth, I intend to find a way to offer at least a couple of game registrations over the next 1+ year of painful waiting. Cheers!
