Jesus Christ, are people stupid? The games comes out on Steam. That means that with one copy, you can play it on PC and on a MAC.

Brian gave us an extra copy along with our 30$ goodies. Also he will give us an amazing game.

Plus, even if he was greedy, a man with his history in video games would diserve to get greedy as hell. I hope he makes enough money with this game to feed his grand grand children. It's about time he got what he deserved.

This goes to show, that even if you give a man almost everything, like an awesome setting, story, gameplay, he will find SOMETHING to cry about.
A pistol is more than adequate. Hell, I dispatched a whole platoon one time with a pocket knife.

Yeah, noose got a bit too excited and went off on a bit of non-sequitur. I don't agree with that part of what he wrote either. On the other hand, his actual argument, that backers should get access to the game on all OSes, is solid.

Zeronet wrote:I believe the cost is something like 5-10% per copy going to the distribution platform. STEAM offers content as PC/MAC for the same code, so when you buy it for the PC or MAC if you've got the money left over after buying three different computers with three different OS's. The absolutely minuscule amount of people who are going to get the game for the PC then switch to Linux and set fire to their old machine probably havent entered the mental equation.

Gee, thanks for saying Linux doesn't matter. What's the point of this argument? Wasteland supports Linux. This is a fact, it says so in the official FAQ. And it obviously has entered the "mental equation", since the most recent update says "Many people wanted to be able to get a Mac AND a PC version, or PC and Linux", meaning they considered this exact situation. Then proceeded to deal with it in a rather silly way.

Also, PCs can dual-boot, y'know. I dual boot Linux and Windows, because I write code on Linux and play games (and run stupid programs) on Windows. On the same computer. People with an x86 Mac can triple-boot Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux with boot camp, on the same hardware.

Zeronet wrote:<snip refutation of an argument I don't particularly care for>
There's no DRM and i'm sure nobody expects you to buy the game twice when you switch from PC to MAC to Linux like you are apparently intending.

But that's the whole issue! Apparently we are expected to pay twice for the right to play the game on another OS!

Also, as I've already explained, I switch between Windows and Linux several times a week.

Zeronet wrote:Well when the game comes out, you will probably be able to buy it full price for all three platforms, instead of the discount price we're getting now.

What discount price? I'm pledging 55$, I'm paying a premium because I want this game to be awesome.

Lord Denton wrote:Jesus Christ, are people stupid? The games comes out on Steam. That means that with one copy, you can play it on PC and on a MAC.

You mostly replied to the greed thing, which I don't agree with either, but apparently you've missed the issue: The game supports 3 operating systems, Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. Apparently, getting 1 copy of the game entitles you to play only on one OS for some strange reason. So, three OSes supported, pick any two. Why?!

Wait, you're right, I am stupid. Apparently this needed to be spelled out for me.

If you have two of these copies things, and you redeem one on Steam and redeem the other as a Linux version, then assuming they used SteamPlay (it's actually optional, but I'm willing to assume it on good faith) you can actually play on all three platforms.

Which makes this whole stupid "one copy = one OS" restriction business even more moronic because it doesn't actually restrict anything. I don't get it. Why do this? I hope I can get some sort of official answer on this...

On the other hand, maybe that's an incorrect interpretation too, since the update says it's Mac and Windows or Windows and Linux, and from previous experience they used "or" when they really meant "xor". And it's not exactly the same, because to play the game on all platforms you need to spend both your copies, whereas a person who only wants to play on Windows and Mac could give that second copy to a friend. Linux users have friends too! Really!

Help, please?

I agree, we need an official response on this. You got me at exclusive acces, extra portraits, HQ soundtrack, novella e.t.c. Why are you ruining the incentive to pledge higher (or at all) with a stupid license restriction on OS use? It makes no sense!

It's big publisher mentallity served right in the face of your customers!

Thanks all, for clarifying the issue. I think I might have knee jerked in response to noose's knee jerk. It does seem like such a "trivial" matter to hold things up, but I'm 100% behind where you're coming from now that I see it clearer. ...and for such a "trivial" matter, ideally, it shouldn't take too much thought or effort to clear up on some level. I hope it gets resolved in a way that works out for everyone and that's about all I can do without being on the inside.

I would think that they don't have official response, because they are just started development of the game and haven't yet decided which digital distributors they will use (except steam). So they can't promise that you can download all versions with one license if distributor where you redeem your license don't support all platforms (for example steam don't support linux).

They could promise DRM-free binaries (and OS specifics) for the OS' to be public available on their webpage at launch for no extra charge (and no strings attached.) Problem solved!

Kickstarter page data (outdated now):

$15: $475,785

31,719 backers

$30: $221,640

7,388 backers

$50: $377,650

7,553 backers

$55: $112,750

2,050 backers

$75: $80,100

1,068 backers

$100: $492,800

4,928 backers

$150 (Shirts): $50,400

336 backers

$150 (Coin/poster): $109,500

730 backers

$250: $285,000

1140 backers

$500: $78,000

156 backers

$1,000: $139,000

139 backers

$2,000: $4,000

2 backers

$2,500: $32,500

13 backers

$5,000: $45,000

9 backers

$10,000: $110,000

11 backers

Current:

$2,749,156
+
$91,267
=
$2,840,423

In the time it took to post this [5-9 minutes]; the Kickstarter total I was basing this on had jumped up by $5,000.

160,000 away from 3 million, can we do it? I think so.

EDIT: The amount jumped up $1,500 in two more minutes, so at this rate it should spike over 3 million if it stays to this pace. If it stays around that pace we should wind up having $3.3M to $3.4M by 5:00.

2 minutes: $1,500
10 minutes: $7,500
60 minutes:$45,000
12 hours: 540,000
(If going by that pace.)

Well, not really, because maybe you can't use the Steam version outside of Steam or something.

But these are technical issues, technical issues can be dealt with, and I think some technical concessions are reasonable here. Choosing between Steam and direct downloads for example is not perfect, but might work.

What I want is a political response - I want inxile to say "We want to give you access to the game on all platforms. This might not be entirely possible due to technical reasons, but we're going to do our best".

Noble: Check out the kicktraq page, you're gonna love it.

They'll be taking (and answering) questions at tonight's live wrap party. See if you (or anyone else) can express your concern to them then as that might be the best way to directly get their attention.

That's not an unreasonable request from our perspective as backers (no, this doesn't affect me personally, but I have this tendency to look out for my peers/potential peers and expect they'll do the same for me, old fashioned naive guy that I am) when it at least appears to be quibbling over $15 when I'm looking at ~32K backers at the $15 level and ~25K backers at $30 and above. A lot of words have been thrown around lately like "entitlement", but that's not what this is about. Maybe I'm assuming a lot, but I suspect most folks who would "benefit" from being given unlimited use across all platforms are in that $30+ group. I don't think the intended message is "choose between a $30+ contribution with goodies or multiple $15 contributions and feel slighted".

It is not necessarily that easy, because they don't know how big those binaries are how many people will download binaries from their page.

To make such offer their server should have enough capacity to work as distributor platform and I don't think that they have such capacity in their web server.

I checked, and the digital instruction manual and map are both included in the $15 and $30 digital tiers.

Sure, let's just put it up on The Pirate Bay while we're at it, that'll totally simplify distribution.

I gave my money to Fargo (65 dollars) and co to help this game to be made. I don't care about fancy stuff, i just want the game to be awesome and if people that paid less money than me gets more stuff it's cool. We are not here to be greedy about rewards, but to help this game to be made. Of course it's cool to have extra stuff, but don't be childish about all this.

And i do hope Inxile gets lot of profits from this game: This will get the company to deliver us more hardore RPGs in the future.

Wish I could upgrade my donation, but wife would slaughter me....

However, I'm really hoping for that $3mil mark.. $80k to go......

We can do it... Come on......... I love mods... (But for the love of god.. Please DON'T let the first mod be a nude mod.. Ala Fallout 3, Skyrim, Oblivion and all the other games out there with decent mod communities... Really.. If you want porn, download it. It will be with real people and better resolution.) So many awesome mod communities out there..

Anyways. I have the WL kickstarter page open and refresh it every half hour or so and see how many thousand it has gone up..

Actually we only need 8,000 (rounded and estimated) until we hit 3 million, you weren't including PayPal.
