Was the Scorpitron imagined to be piloted by robots? I thought the Scorpitron in Wasteland 1 was a huge robot operating independently or under some control from the Base Cochise mainframe.

The awesome, out of print, miniatures game Space Crusade by Games Workshop and Milton Bradley had an expansion titled Mission: Dreadnought. The Space Marine players were tasked to destroy a factory developing Dreadnoughts.

Mission: Dreadnought gave me an evil idea for Wasteland 2.

Should one of the goals in Wasteland 2 be to destroy a Scorpitron factory that has already produced multiple Scorpitrons that are fully operational?

MMRW,

Thank you for sharing that link!!!! That was awesome!!! Also, we have passed the official 30th anniversary date
of, "Mad Max 2" aka, "The Road Warrior". It officially opened on Christmas Eve, 1981 in Australia and maybe elsewhere. Though we wouldn't get it until the following summer in the U.S.. We won't even discuss the abortion of 1985. The book was great, but the finished movie sucked. I keep hoping that Miller will do a special edition which puts some threat into it, and ties up the loose plot points. Later, CKB.

I hope we can see 3.5 million on kickstarter by the time it finishes, however hitting 2.5 is good too.

I feel compelled to say how much I enjoy that piece of concept art. The framing of the shot, combined with its post nuclear elements and overpowering natural elements(the green/birds in the sky) really bring out the sense of severity and awe that seeing a giant robotic scorpion would invoke.
Not even considering the three Gatling guns and possible high powered energy rifle sticking out from its chest. Look at the city, crumbling in the distance, birds fleeing from collapsing buildings into the sky, or perhaps spooked by some pre-war element still lurking in the burnt out ruins of the old cities.
In the foreground, Mother Earth powers her way through the now inert, motionless cities that once threatened to en-crouch entirely into her domains, finally her time to reclaim what was always her own.

Just beautiful, if this is indeed the tone you'll be taking with the visuals I much approve and can't wait to see this translated into the game view.

I want this to provide not only difficult but nice combat to stroke players egoes - i want this to wipe the floor with rangers, to obliterate them, to make me run in terror!

And most importantly, i want it to be agile, fast, capable of various movements and maneuvers and most importantly able to climb almost anywhere. I want this thing on top of buildings, stalking everything, and behaving as menacingly and intelligently as it looks like it could.
There should be no one inside. It should be an Ai.

Or scrambling down the walls or climbing up over them so the player has no easy place to run onto, take cover and shoot at it from on high.

I want players to run somewhere, think theyre safe and then see it climbing up towards them and be all like "shiiiiiiiiit!!!"

If game was made by bioware.

At one point of the game progress, Scorpitron will achieve true sentience and realize that it was being mean to my party because it had a manly crush. A group orgy is to be had.

"B" word detected.... "B" word detected...
...shutting down diplomatic systems,
...turning on full aggression mode....targeting, targeting....

I have to add though, i really dont want to see AIs turned into a completely black villain in the game.
Sure, some conflict is probably inevitable but it or they should not be evil villains bent on destroying humanity - just because.
After all humanity is already destroyed and really... there is no real reason why an Ai should be completely antagonistic itself.

If it is - then its because we taught it to be like that.
Including teaching it how to lie and be really mean and dastardly.

The environment looks very atmospheric, although for a 'robot scorpion' I think it's a bit generic.

Is anyone else interested in a version with a yellow paintjob (peeling-off paint, maybe) and tracks instead of legs - like the original Wasteland Scorpitron?

I think with legs its fine, and makes it different from the scorpion tank from C&C4 which IMO looks bad, so the design has to be different, unless you want EA breathing down our necks and saying it infringes copyright from the C&C universe

yes you are right, WL1 was released first before C&C, but the way that the scorpion tank looks in the C&C games will still probably be copyrighted with EA, so its still a fine line, and EA still holds the rights to the original game as well

all I'm saying is, as long as the scorpion tank from any of the C&C universe is similar to the one in WL 2, there shouldne be a problem right? so technically, keeping Scorpitron V2 as a legged version, should be ok? really not sure,

There isn't anything stopping you from creating a unit type that was inspired from a different game. Just don't blatantly copy it verbatim like EA is accused of doing in the new CNC game with the tanks from Warhammer 40k. The Fallout New Vegas DLC Old World Blues had Robo-Scorpions that looked like a version of the scorpitron.

When it comes to copying someone's work, EA is a the top of the game:

Anyway, there's really no reason to be warred about the Scorpion. If nothing else... it's only a concept art for now, not a definitive representation of what we might get in the game.

Since the new update states that "all backers who are in at higher levels will also get all of these added items too", does that mean that we will all have two digital copies?

For example, if I pledged $100 for the Collector's Edition which comes with one digital copy so that I will not have to open my physical collector's edition of the game, will I also receive a second digital copy of the game that I can then hold on to for myself or to give to a friend?

Personally, I hope it isn't in the game. No, seriously. The Scorpitron was a unique robot in the original. Just recycling it seems kind of cheap. After all, one of the big complaints about Fallout 3 was that they just mined FO1 and 2 for ideas and put a new coat of paint on them.

The Scorpitron was unique to Vegas. Let Wasteland 2 have some new icons. I wouldn't expect to see the Fusion Octotron or Finster Leviathan either.

I think the concept art is an indication that they at least plan to include it in the game. They may not end up doing that, but I doubt it isn't at least in the plans.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

You make a good point. In Fallout I loved the Deathclaws. They were scary. By New Vegas I was butchering them by the dozens... They really lost their appeal. How many have I killed since FO, FO2, FO:T, FO3 and FO:NV. They ALL had Deathclaws. And Super-Mutants. (How HUGE was the Master's Army!) Yeah they're sequels but seriously guys it's ok to come up with new stuff. Fan service is like candy. It tastes great but too much makes you sick.

EDIT: Ignore Hiver. Your post contributed something of value while his did not.

Thought: Perhaps something new could be introduced by finding a destroyed Scorpitron. Who or what did this?! A nod to the original with the promise of something new.

Following the discussion about how fallout looked like (greyish and dirty) and how green wasteland was, I really could not imagine this working right until now. Yes it's green but it's still all in ruin and there's an eeriness in the picture I hope to see in wasteland2. I like the Scorpitron as well in the shot, but the surrounding I like even more!

Well done Andree!

It's been so many years since WL1 that I don't mind a Scorpitron 2.0. It's different enough anyway. What would be a problem is if Scorpitrons appeared in every following sequel and expansion.

I love the atmoshere of this picture. Really post-apocaliptic. Hope the game will keep the same mood.
