Kickstarter Drive Update #13, $30 Tier Updated

Postby Brother None » April 15th, 2012, 1:18 pm

In Update #13, InXile upgrades the $30 tier to pull $15 pledgers upwards, and talks about the upcoming end-of-drive live streaming event.

Also we have spent some time thinking about and asking fans what we could put into the $30 tier to make it more interesting and to not disrupt what has already been offered. I think we have come up with an interesting list that may persuade a few people to upgrade. Based on your top requests and a forum poll we now offer the following as part of the $30 tier:

• An extra digital download of the game in any format. Many people wanted to be able to get a Mac AND a PC version, or PC and Linux, or even an extra PC version for a friend. Now you can.
• Access to a collection of exclusive Ranger portraits that will double the pool of character portraits you have to choose from at the start of the game when you are rolling up your Rangers. This unique image collection will not only give you more Ranger portraits, but more Ranger icons used to display your party location on the world map.
• Access to a four-episode Video Development Blog that will show you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the design and development of Wasteland 2. Sit in on designer meetings and art-review meetings to see the process behind how the game is made. See interviews with Brian Fargo, Chris Avellone, Mike Stackpole, Alan Pavlish, and the rest of the development team as they explain to you what they are doing and why they are doing it.
• A novella by Chris Avellone based on the universe of Wasteland.
Of course, all backers who are in at higher levels will also get all of these added items too.

Also we will have a live streaming party on Monday night (16th) from 10pm-12am EDT to celebrate the green light of production on the game. Our Kickstarter does not close until 5am the next morning, but we wanted to get some of our friends and family together to celebrate this little bit of history and share it with you. On attendance will be Nolan Bushnell the founder of Atari, Chris Avellone and a few other surprise guests. We will be answering questions received through live chat on the Twitch TV stream as well as from Facebook fans. I will tweet the URL Monday afternoon as well as post it here on Kickstarter.

The FAQ has been updated to show the new reward tier structure.

As tough as the Scorpitron was in the original, it never concerned me other than it was one tough SOB to take out. Just looking at that monster in the updated version got me quaking in my boots. And I must say that I really, really, really like the look of the buildings in the background. Now, THAT is how I imagine what Post-Apocalyptia would look like!

Any hope of more incentives for $50+ tiers?

I'd like a clarification on the $30 upgrade, please. Will the novella by Chris Avellone be a digital download, or a physical book? I'm seriously considering upgrading my PayPal pledge for this one, so I need to know whether I'll have to add another $15 for international shipment.

Drop the OS segregation and I'll up my pledge! We are paying for the content, not executables.

I think steam version will probably support SteamPlay between PC and Mac. I also think the platform restrictions are only for the digital copies as it would make no sense printing separate physical discs per platform. This will probably be changed or clarified either way.

All of the novellas (including the Stackpole ones) are digital.

making any content at all exclusive to certain packages is one of the root causes of piracy in games. people don't want to feel like they are getting a lesser experience just because they didn't pledge 30 bucks before the game was released.

you might think that character portraits aren't that important, but the on the other hand, exactly what is the point in making them exclusive in the first place? just add them all to the base package when people buy the game, if you don't, someone will just extract them and then people can import them anyway. a pettier person might just pirate the game out of spite.

it's stupid.

no exclusive ingame content.

Can someone clarify the differences between the US$30 and US$55 tier package?

1. Will the USD$55 package also contain the digital extras like character portraits mentioned in the new US$30 tier?
2. Is the additional digital copy from the USD$30 package also going to be given to the USD$55 all digital tier? In addition, if the game is going to be released on Steam, wouldn't Steamplay make the game available on PC/Mac just like the Valve catalogue of games?
3. Who is writing the novellas mentioned in the reward tiers? In the USD$55 tiers it mentions novella based on the world by Mike Stackpole. Now in the USD$30 tier its the world by Chris Avellone?

The previous tiering structure appears to be based on incremental rewards, but its harder to compare the reward tiers of USD$30 and USD$55 with the latest update.

Everything that was added to the $30 tier was also added to every single higher tier.
in my opinion

1. Yes.

2. Yes. And yes.

3. Both Avellone and Stackpole are writing novellas. $55 basically adds the Stackpole novellas (part 1 and part 2) and beta access to the $30 one. See the FAQ for up-to-date, per-tier details

It is less than 15 dollars although some can be quite problematic at the moment (at least for me) Could you give away with a portrait of the backers of 15 dollars for difrentes feelings of those who have donated?

It is not a requirement. Just a question.

Thank you very much :)

PS: Sorry for my english

Alright, they decided to put it on Twitch. Here's hoping that their gargantuan IRC servers are up and functioning the day of the stream.

This. It's minor, it's not a deal breaker and I won't lessen my pledge. but it hurts. i will even enjoy the extra portraits less knowing my 15 dollar friends might be missing them. Never hold any part of the game hostage.

If you are reading this mr. Fargo, PLEASE give the 15$ contributors the portraits aswell. you can always add OUT OF GAME CONTENT (wallpapers etc) as a replacement bonus to 30$ and upward pledgers if you must, just do not cut out any part of the game for your backers.

We have faith in your team. It will be a fantastic game, just don't divide your audience. Equal love for all.

My only issue with this is that the concept art was something that was supposed to only be available to the 50+ tiers. Now that this is available to the 30, it takes away from those of us that originally pledged in the 50+ tiers. Especially for the 55 tier. Not too much of difference between the 30 and 55 tiers now.

I would agree with you about in-game content, but I don't think we need to bring piracy into it. An advantage of this kind of funding is that they don't need to worry about piracy. The game's going to be DRM free anyway.

From my reading of the updated Tier structure FAQs, the 55 Tier gets these in addition to what is in the 30 tier:
-Michael Stackpole Novella (both parts)
-Digital copies of the Cloth Map and 'Old School Instruction Booklet', which are otherwise only physically available in the boxed sets. (Presumably the digital game itself comes with map & instructions, but in a different format).
-Beta access

Since the new update states that "all backers who are in at higher levels will also get all of these added items too", does that mean that we will all have two digital copies?

For example, if I pledged $100 for the Collector's Edition which comes with one digital copy so that I will not have to open my physical collector's edition of the game, will I also receive a second digital copy of the game that I can then hold on to for myself or to give to a friend?
