Kickstarter Drive Update #10

Postby Brother None » April 7th, 2012, 10:08 am

The 10th Kickstarter update talks about how you can help promote the game, and shows the first bit of concept art.

One thing you will notice in that list of potential jobs above is that nowhere in that list do you see ‘Marketing Lady’ or ‘PR Guy’. That is because we don’t have these positions, nor do we plan to hire them. We want to spend the money on the game, and only the game.

This is where you come in…

All 43,000+ of you are our marketing and PR team. We need your help to get the word out that the Kickstarter countdown is on.

• Post to your Facebook pages with links back to the Kickstarter.
• Follow @BrianFargo on twitter and retweet my Wasteland related tweets.
• Post it to forums where you think it is relevant.
• Send emails out to everyone you know.
• Go to our website and put our Doomsday countdown clock on your website.
• Get a friend or family member to buy in.
• Shout it from the rooftop.
• Do some early shopping for Christmas 2013!

Should be available on the press site soon. In the mean time, No Mutants Allowed offers a full resolution version.

Really great look and feel in the artwork. If the game can deliver a similar feel of the desert rangers I would be happy. Please, no group of rangers with rocket launchers and heavy machine guns just because those types of weapons are nerfed in the game. Diversity ffs, like in this great piece of art!

I cant wait to see this on my computer later. Damn phone screen is too small. One thing I notice is a heavy western look mixed with a modern styling. Overall, I like it.

Good piece of concept art. I didn't quite expect it to be that dark, but that's not a problem. It's a nicely atmospheric pic.

It looks great, but I hope they don't go as dark with the whole game as that piece would seem to suggest. I like my bright, bizarre, multicolored wasteland just fine, thanks. That feels overly Fallout-y to me.

It might be night.

Too be honest I think it feels like a bit too much wastelandy, they need to pull it more towards the middle.

That's actually a good sign. An art style neither "side" is entirely comfortable (or uncomfortable) with is what I would call a good balance of the two.

Kind of murky. Are they standing in the middle of a sand storm? The desert tan color is kind of overwhelming. Details are being lost in the color blur. Neat picture overall, however.... [Yes, I _am_ a "the glass is half-empty" kind of guy.]

The 2.5mil threshold seems more and more likely. I don't believe the 3mil milestone will be reached, but hey, please PROOVE ME WRONG WASTELAND FANS AND KICKSTARTER PEOPLE!!!!

I need to mull it over a bit more. It's just a piece of concept art, and the earliest one at that, so I wouldn't get too worked up over it in either way. As a piece of art, its very nice. As what I see for "Wasteland", I'm not so sure.

Ultimately, I was hoping to see more of an 80's Pen & Paper theme for Wasteland, and this piece looks too modern to me, from the sunglasses to the color-scheme.

As far as being a group of bad-ass Rangers, its kind of "cool"...I'm just not sure it has much of a Wasteland feel to it...

Not that we had anything to go by that was this detailed, back in '87, but if I saw that piece of Artwork with no context I would never in a million years think it was connected to Wasteland.

I think it gets the point across of the Desert Rangers being a military organization, but it doesn't go beyond that into suggesting what the world / game / look of Wasteland is going to be. At least, I hope it doesn't suggest what it is going to be, because if so I'm not feeling it.

Indeed.

It shouldn't be taken for how the game looks. Not just yet.

Maybe if you shrink it to 320x240 and increase contrast by 400% you will feel it? I believe the limited color palette of wasteland 1 would look extremely silly both in concept art and in a modern game that Have a much broader palette to utilize. I think that's the wrong kind of "old school".

For the record, when I say 80's P&P RPG looks, here's some examples of what I am talking about.

A couple of these were even from MSPE sourcebooks, the system from which Wasteland was derived. The Rangers piece is a really nice piece of art. Technically superior to any of the above images. But it lacks the feeling of a Pen & Paper game.

Well everything has it's time and place, I doubt you will see any art like that.
