Kickstarter progress stalled

Postby mmx » March 26th, 2012, 4:25 am

In the first days we've managed to get pretty big sum, but in the last days the situation does not look very good. Yes, I know that the goal is reached, but I want to see, as Fargo said: "...sky is the limit" (at least to match the Double Fine success)
I think that there are still backers that haven't made up their mind, and so far no real motivation video/news for them was made. All we have so far is something that no one is actually emotionally triggered by - referring to the "Socially unacceptable" article http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/blog/2012/03/25/socially-unacceptable/

Fargo, we need your vision about the future of Wasteland shared, talk about it. I would really like to see again the counters moving like in the first days... it was such a great experience(hitting constantly F5)

It's not going to be pulling in 500k/day every day. The middle weeks are, apparently, the period where there's little activity, which makes sense. Big boom in the beginning, big boom in the end, whole lot of nuttin' in the middle.

I was convinced the same day I learned about this, that was last week. I also went and spread the word in my guild and I have contact to a community site for gaming. Yeah I'd really like a lot of people to join, but I really don't know anyone as crazy as I am.

To be honest, sitting at nearly $1.6m is wonderful. I would hardly call that being stalled. If it was still sitting at $550K right now, I'd be worried. However, we're going to get our game, and it's going to launch on Mac and Linux - everything else is icing on the cake.

Double Fine's Kickstarter exploded in the last 3-5 days so I expect much the same to happen with Wasteland. And even if it doesn't, I don't care because we're still fully funded.

I`m waiting for my money to arrive on my paypal account and i`ll make my pledge immediately. But it is strange that only around 10.000 is sent through paypal so far. I think it hasn`t been marketed enough that you can make paypal pledges.

I`m hoping for a strong last two weeks as well, and I also hope inXile is preparing something to increase the hype around wasteland a little bit in that period.

it's the last social update yes, once it's been cleared up, which is bound to happen soon, i expect a major surge again as pledgers are going up into their higher tiers again.

I'd be a little hesitant if I was Brian to speak out considering the storm that erupted after Update #6 which imho was much ado about nothing and folks flying off on tangents (there is still people that think he wants multiplayer which he specifically stated he doesn't think would work). Yes this is fan backed but it's also Brian and his reputation. I for one trust his vision and would prefer to see his vision of the game. After all he did alright last time or most of us wouldn't even be here backing this effort. Either your trust the guy and the project or you don't, and if you don't start your own Kickstarter Project. Input is great and its awesome he is listening but one persons must avoid is going to be another persons must have and who decides who is the hardest core gamer ...

Brian do what you think is best!!!

I think that there are many backers who no longer sure... lets just say that if inxile haven't marketed Wasteland as 'post-apocalyptic computer RPG'. The inspiration for FALLOUT, with people like morgan who worked on Fallout and headed by Fargo who headed interplay(which is mostly known for it's great RPG i.e. Fallout etc) only as Wasteland, I doubt that even the Kickstarter project popularity using the gamers annoyance of big publishers, would allowed you to even reach your goal.

after all there are certain key words that makes us old timers to say "shut up and take our money".

Midway through the first day, I was sure we would reach the goal. Really, that's all that matters.

Sometime during the second day I estimated we would end up somewhere in the 1.5 million range.

It will probably be more like 2 mil when all is said and done. It hasn't stalled, its just the natural progression and why you need to make so much right away. It isn't going to keep pouring in money for a full month. The final day or couple days should see another bump as people get in at the last minute, but I wouldn't spend the next 20 days refreshing for updates if I were you.

you still see drops of 100's sometimes. That 6th update should really be "updated" or at least a link to the blogpost fargo made about anti social. A lot of people are on the fence because of that.

Yes but even linking the parts about optional and will not effect the game so on doesn't get them to understand what it is they just don't want even the idea to be there in any form or it ruins the game for them using some kind of idea flu. Thats my best guess i clearly can't read the minds of those people because they have them locked in tiny boxes...

It went up over $10,000 in the past hour... wonder if there was a big donor or a bunch of people just heard about it.

Your forgetting also that other Kickstarters have had a lull period around this time in fund raising. Even so they are still on track for barely getting to 2 Million. Think about it $15k-20k a day (according to your graphs) and 20 days left that leaves another 300k-400k to be raised. I think 2Million is pretty realistic at this point.

Frankly, we hit the 1.25 million mark. Everything beyond that is just gravy. Actually, to be perfectly honest, everything beyond 900k is bonus. Sure, I want an awesome-huge game, but the thing I want most is a game. 900k gives me that, so I'm happy.

Would re-tweaking the tiers get people donating more I wonder? I have no idea how or what they could offer however. The blood sausage still isn't getting any love.Maybe its because you don't get the previous award. But I guess that would include a lot of writing and stuff, and you can't really insure how good their writing is,unless it is subjected to an editor. It would have to add to the story somewhat I suppose, and if it was just a loveletter to some guys girlfriend,it probably wouldn't meet the cut.

THIS

I was too young to play wasteland when it first came on. Fell in absolute love with Fallout 1, not when it came out, but when a buddy gave me a copy. I've since purchased every fallout game since, out of homage to such a fantastic game setting.

anyway, that being said, kickstarter is all about hype.
I think the hardcore have all contributed for the most part now.

they need to have some exciting new updates to get fence sitters onboard.

new levels, new content, etc..

as others have said, kickstarter campaigns are huge at the start and the end. the middle, you gotta really work it to keep up that stream of backers.
