I have a problem with a general sort of counter (or supportive) argument that's on the rise. It seems to function as a sort of.. stopper to completely harmless, creative thought. It has started to irk me a because it is based solely on assumptions on how the development of Wasteland 2 is going to be financed. It has rarely anything to do with the idea at hand. I fear that, if hammered on enough, it will make some people stop from suggesting potentially great ideas.
Roughly put:
- "Idea X is a bad idea because it will cost too much money."
Why this is is a nonsense type of counter argument:
- You have no idea idea how much it would actually cost. Don't even go there.
- Completely separate proprietary software may be involved, saving development costs.
- At this point in time it cannot possibly be clear to anyone how much funding inXile is going to rake in.
This is not a contest to get our own ideas in, everybody should get to give whatever input on the project they can and be rated for it fairly. That will be all.
