I only skimmed, but I didn't notice anyone else making this point.

A mod kit, in addition to all the other good stuff, eases the barrier for the next generation of developers.

Part of the grand vision here, I think, is to get people interested in deep story games again. We want that weird 12 year old kid who thinks that Wasteland 2 is better than HaloOfDutyStrike to be able to get dirty and try out his kewl idea. A few of those kids will have the potential to be really good storytellers. Make it easy for them to get started.

Not sure how you could have missed this 8 page long thread.

I meant I skimmed this thread. Not all the threads.

Thanks for the link.

I voted for mod kit, since modding can (and has) made games that went above and beyond what the vanilla game can offer. Plus, modding is a natural fit because the gaming community is ultimately what is making Wasteland 2 a reality - a game that's "for gamers, by gamers" in more ways than just about any game previously made.

However, I'm happy enough if the core of the game continues to get better with more funding. I personally don't need 'milestones' though I understand why many people would - it provides a more 'tangible' goal than simply stating that the game will be "bigger and better" with each mark.

I'm sure the developers already know this, but further milestones will need to be carefully selected to avoid killing the pledging momentum. For example, the whole comment about making the game "more social" did not seem to go over too well (if the hasty clarification on the status page is any indication). That's also why I consider the 8-bit retro mode to be a rather odd poll choice; I think most people recognize that funding isn't unlimited and would rather have the money go toward making a better game - whether it's improved graphics, or sounds, or gameplay - than just adding seemingly arbitrary or unnecessary features.

Uh, I noticed a lot of you are mentioning only one thing you voted for in the poll. Did you guys notice that you can vote on up to 5 things? Just thought I'd point that out in case you missed it.

I know that mod tools are a big want for some folks but I am not much of a modder. I play the game based on the developers vision of the game. To each their own.

But I want to qualify that I would hope that at least the initial kickstarter funds go to making a big game for the singleplayer and use profits to develop the mod tools. Not knowing much of the process but I can imagine developing the mod tools could take a lot of time and money certainly more than the four letter word feature Brian hinted at that seemed a deal breaker for some as it would take away from an immersive world.

That said what ever the final game turns out to be I am sure it will be great ...

I haven't read every reply in this topic, but my idea is: maybe someday later: Wasteland1 on Wasteland2 game engine?

Social features. Just because apparently nobody asked for them (apparently Brian Fargo doesn't count). Well, now somebody asked for them. :)

Based on the blog posts ideas, I actually do quite like the idea of having a Fallout style statistics page I can look at not just for myself but for my friends too. I wouldn't mind seeing how many Rats we've both killed haha.

Larger world, yes, yes and another YES! And I would love a port to the iPad (like Bard's Tale), to carry this around wherever I go. It would be cool as well to have an editor for creating own scenarios and maps to tell your own stories. I see it for other games and how that boosts the community.

With more money, +1,5 millions? Polish the game and keep the number of bugs at minimum. More content is not all. I rather have 50-100 hours of really good gameplay than +200 hours of mediocre and bugridden gameplay. Stick to the vision. Gameplay and Story must be perfectly executed!

If you have more ideas for content? Make an old school expansion pack later and focus on the original ideas.

Exactly.
More quality/depth by improving/polishing the original vision. No need of more contents/features.
Seems not commercial enough because nothing new to advertise ?
Maybe but i will rely on backers intelligence to recognize what really matters.

This post may have no merit as I have never played Wasteland, but I was scrolling through my Game News Now app on my Windows Phone and happened to read an article containing information on Mr. Fargo. I then visited the Kickstarter website and saw Wasteland 2 under the "Most-Funded" section and was intrigued. I am a huge fan of Fallout (from 3 to New Vegas, never played the first two) and this sounded like a similar game in the sense of the post-apocalyptic theme. Before I get to rambling on, I just noticed that there was only an option for computer and mobile mediums on the poll above, and wondered what your team thinks about a possible XBLA (I am an Xbox 360 user) and PSN release. Not just for the sequel, but also the original (provided there are no licensing issues). Keep in mind, I am not in any way stating that your team is only capable of producing an Arcade (downloadable-only) title, I believe that a full-retail release may be possible too. Whatever your team is interested in. Just a thought from a business owner and newbie to the Wasteland universe.

Thanks,
MGehring

Not going to happen. They're not releasing Wasteland 2 on consoles, and the original is currently in licensing deadlock.

Something I forgot to mention, even though I've actually come around the the idea of the small social feature and kinda want it now, I completely forgot to mention localization.

I see far too often people complaining that areas of the world like Russia (and I know wasteland/fallout, and other post apoc stuff has a lot of fans in Russian and East Europe) are unable to get games in their local languages, I think this should be a fairly high priority if it's doable, I know a lot of smaller indies literally cannot afford to do it in more than their native language (which is why people assume Japan for example doesn't have a bustling indie scene, it does we just never see any of it other than the breakthrough successes) but if you can I think it would set a really good precedent.

^I personally don't even want a game in finnish. I learned most of my english from playing games, and I enjoy playing them in english, they just seem wrong when translated. Besides if the game setting is in united states, I don't think the setting would come out well if traslated. I know some countries defintily want to have traslation's as they are used to them, but I usually prefer movies with the original language (mostly subtitles/text in finnish is used here with foreign movies).

Yes, I can see your point here. I also learned English playing games. But I am recalling a similar conversation on a local fan-translation site here in Russia. The point is while we have a luxury of enjoying games in all their true glory the majority of population is less lucky. So the only option for them is to wait for translation (official or otherwise). That's why I think that games, even if they are not shipped localization from the start, must have at least textual resources available for easy modifications or better full-featured modding system.
Just give tools and let the fans do the rest of the work!
