Two-player mode

Postby Danvil » March 23rd, 2012, 3:55 pm

This is not "multi"player and not "social". I would just like to experience the whole thing together with a friend. Both see the same things and have the same dialog. Everyone can do everything - no rules whatsoever. We chat for communication to decide what actions to take. No need for a lobby or whatsoever - just a good old fashioned connect-to-IP.

TBH, I'd hate having (rather limited) resources spent on a feature like this. Maybe it could work as a later paid DLC. Otherwise I hope that every single penny is spent on beefing up the singleplayer portion - for which we wanted Wasteland 2 in the first place.

Can't you just play the game over a stream and make all the major decisions through the chat?

I am sorry i don't see how more then 2 people is not considered multiplayer.
But GREAT NEWS! Game is coming on steam. So press "Shift + Tab" and you can open a "chat" window and decide on "options" to take with your friend

B.F already said there isn't much chance of a Mplayer component in Update 6. Only a "social" service that maybe implemented in 2 million mark.
Gotta love that Sick Demented Dark Humor.

I totally agree that the single player mode should be the first priority. But if the developers really want to do something in the direction of multiplayer, playing together with a (one) friend would be my preferred game mode.
Steam chat or a stream is really not an option for me as it completely breaks the immersion into the game.

I don't want a game where my buddy triggered an event I didn't know and causes a repercussion for me, and at the same time I don't want to see every little event that my buddy sees to insure I didn't miss it.

Personally I disagree here. It could be a fun mode to always see the same things and have conversations with npcs together.
As B.F. stated:
Multi-player is a design issue and not a technical one in this case.

So my suggestion: if it isn't an issue, do a two-player mode intead of some strange "social features".

Simply let friends control characters of your party like in BG2, that's very simple and yet very fun.

It would be cool to have coop campaing, but if it should be high quality then it needs different setting of the whole world which in the end costs quite a lot of money. Single player should definitely be the highest priority.

This.

I don't really mind the idea, but I have a tough time thinking that the funds couldn't be spent on something better. More choices, more/better art, more/better music and sound effects...

But if it can, more power to you.

The problem that most people see MP in terms of something vastly diffident than SP, that require change of focus to the game, other than the option to go through the SP campaign with a friend.

EDIT: and yeah, I'd rather have Bulders gate style Mutiplayer any idea over what seem so far as pointless social options.

Much as I like to play with a good friend, budget prolly won't be available. What I did for X-com (with a team based game),was ,me and friend named our own characters, and moved em when our turn was up,If I got one of his guys killed, you damn well knew it,and vice versa.Made for a helluva good time.Helluva time.Could do the same with this I suppose.

Add a lobby and support networked Hot-Seat so individual players could play control the individual characters. Add in optional timers, a special shared state of the game for all players in a session and a text-only chat interface.

Err, I'd rather inXile didn't waste any time on network code; the game is being designed from a singleplayer perspective, so introducing multiplayer in any form is always going to appear tacked on, anyway.

Exactly. The Hot-Seat mode we get for free ;)

And I would in addition call for an remote Hot-Seat mode. No extra campaign and please not extra multiplayer, extra coop or any "social" stuff. Just the singleplayer thing together with a friend (remotely).

Regarding developement effort: Brian Fargo stated in Kickstarter Update 6 that this is not a technical issue. So perhaps they are using an engine which has network support built in? In any case, if it is no big deal I would be happy to see such a "remote hot-seat" in the game.

This sounds like a co-op thing, which is along the lines of multiplayer. IMO I don't want to see this implemented at all.

Please: No Co-op, NO social, NO immersion-breaking MMORPG. These are the roads to dusty death, and not in a good way either; more in a twitchy fingered 14 year old caffeine junky troll kind of way...

I don't mind any ideas in this vein, but not at the exp of 1 player mode it has to be a complete after thought. like the game is perfect BUT we happen to have 30 K left let's throw it in sort of after thought

If this is a tactical game requiring parties to split at times, then a two player option seems completely logical. I'd love this. A lot of people I know would. They just aren't very vocal.

If they don't speak up, they don't get a vote. Speaking for the "silent majority" is not allowed. You may only speak for yourself.
