I see there's already threads suggesting Texas and Arizona. But did you know there's actually a whole state squeezed between the two?

We've got some stuff to recommend us. The Rio Grande, which would probably attract settlements. Terrains varied from desert to desert scrub to forest to some decently tall mountains. Yes, the Rockies exist south of the Colorado state line.

There are two national labs, Sandia and Los Alamos, which, if they weren't hit, would be a good source of interesting tech and probably quest hooks. And there are plenty of mountains, and a good few lakes. And best of all, our water system isn't too far gone from what it originally was. And so long as you're near enough to a source of water for irrigation, it is possible to farm things here.

I'd like to think that we've got enough people living at least halfway off the grid for a respectable survivor community, so long as Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Santa Fe all get hit. Otherwise, there would be large populations of soon-to-be dead folks leaving the cities for the rural areas that can't really support 1.5 million people without help. In that case, those few who were ruthless enough to survive would, at least, form the core of a decent bandit community.

I'd actually really like to see this. I can't think of any post-apocalyptic games that really went into New Mexico, so we're really underrepresented there. So, anyone for it?

Another New Mexican? Wow.

As I said in the Tucson thread, I do find it criminal that no post-nuclear game has ever deigned to explore New Mexico, which was the birthplace of nuclear things. I really would have thought it a no-brainer.

Albuquerque could be the new Las Vegas, largely intact but abandoned (although the aquifer under the city probably would support some population). We've also got the White Sands Test Range to explore, a commercial space centre (if you fast-forward the timeline a bit) and, if you want to introduce aliens or just the paranoia of aliens, there's always Roswell.

We've even got oil up north - the presence of oil and oil-running things would be a really good way to offset Wasteland from Fallout (I certainly don't remember Wasteland talking about a lack of oil).

Dang, my sentiments exactly! I'm usually the only New Mexican anywhere I go on the internet.

And you definitely have some more good points. I'm not sure we should fast forward the timeline, though, since it sounds like Wasteland had a pretty good '80's thing going, and Spaceport America wasn't even a gleam in anyone's eye back then.

I think the lack of love for New Mexico in the genre really comes down to our relative obscurity. There are at least a few Americans who aren't aware that New Mexico is an actual state, and there's precious few of us to campaign for it. All the more reason, I suppose, to bring it up.

Psh :P
Texas is like 5x the size of new mexico.

Hah, ya thats true New Mexico did have those nuclear testing sites.
For those people who don't know the history

Trinity was the code name of the first detonation of a nuclear device. This test was conducted by the United States Army on July 16, 1945,[4][5][6][7][8] in the Jornada del Muerto desert about 35 miles (56 km) southeast of Socorro, New Mexico, at the new White Sands Proving Ground, which incorporated the Alamogordo Bombing and Gunnery Range.

Your just the man in the middle. Taking comission from the rio grande. Shame on you.

Plus if it wasn't for texas supplying 1/3 of the nations domestic oil your gas prices would be $50 per gallon. So ha!

Pff. Without civilization supporting you, everyone living up river of you would use all the water before it ever got to you. ;)

Don't forget Gallup. It's a major focus of evil in real life (I know because I stayed overnight there once), so it's not a stretch to say it would be in Wasteland 2 also.
