Idiotic 3 choice ending ( pull one of 3 switches )

What needs to be avoided in the sequel?

I heard they have some sort of Wasteland 2 forum somewhere... Maybe you could try posting it there? ;)

I remember my excitement at the idea of Heavy Rain and experiencing not just one of a few possible endings, but complete stories. Only to find that missing one item in one level near the end, completely rewrote the context from which everything before hand originated. Complete insanity.

DX had bad endings because, well, they were bad. All of the Silent Hill endings got on my nerves, too. Multiple endings aren't bad if done correctly, providing that it actually impacts the story. I can't really think of one at the top of my head, though....

"then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out."

Three being the sacred number, hoilest of holies, any other conclusion would be blasphemy.

Well say we have X Y and Z which leads to their own ending areas/quests but then we have Å which also leads to it's own area, but at that area you are going to either stop, relocate or let the nuclear warheads set off be.
At that point I wouldn't mind a pull one of three switches.
We have 4 paths at that point, 1 just happen to have been written so that nuclear warheads are timed to go off, and if I stand at a control panel I'd prefer a choice of what to do, do I destroy the panel and walk out? Do I rearrange the nuclear warheads to hit the Rangers or Ä or Ö? Or do I stop them from being set off in the first place?
At "that" point, it'd be better to pull one of three switches instead of having to run around the entire bunker cause ¤ $ and £ are located in the opposite directions, that's just annoying.

But that is just if one of the paths are written to have more choices in it by the definitive end, and that that final quest ends by a control panel.
Doesn't mean every path has to end by one, nor should they.
Just saying, "if", it ends at one, I'd want more than 1 choice by that panel.
Still damn proud to be a Dinosaur.

Hahaha, I support this idea!

I really liked how Fallout: New Vegas managed their endings, there were several endings for the main plot, but the companions had their endings, the communities you met had their endings, the combinations were endless.

Yeah, some games have the illusion of multiple endings with switches towards the ending. Hey, game is about to end. Time for choosing which movie you want to watch as ending.

It should be the very opposite, despite having various choices to make throughout the game, when the end approaches, when everything is settled you have no option but to witness how things are going to turn out.

I wouldn't mind my characters acting on their own as a part of the ending, similar to ending of Fallout 1 where your character might shoot overseer or not depending on how you played through the game. Same mechanic would've worked for Fallout 3's ending too. Not that I care.

I don't mind this concept in linear-ish pre-directed games (like Deus Ex 3) but this must never be used in true RPGs. So it doesn't mind in Mass Effect 3 either I guess :D

Multiple Endings?
What are you talking about ?

Everything has an end,
only the sausage has two.

phytmyr Oktober 02, 2012 at 4.50 pm. Says how it really is.

Fallout 2 has really only one ending. The destruction of the enclave
or your death, which isn't an real ending.

What you mean is the feedback to the future of the communities which
you pushed them into, by your deads.
By the way i like it in Fallout 1, 2 (was not necessary an end), NV,
(In FO3 it was not necessary an end, you could buy yourself an option to continue),
but it is not an multiple ending per definition.
Only the choice of the films, you got to see.

Multiple endings were, if you could direct the story in different paths and follow them.
So the solutions wouldn't be in showing us some different films, but in whole
different storyline and their conclusions.
FO:NV tries this, to a certain amount, but the stories conclude to the same
place and action, only for three different fractions.
Which is better, than those other endings of the FO series.
In including the companions, which had also a different ending film, influenced by your
actions, in the ending, FO:NV goes further than all the other FO games together.

By the way. It seems to me that obsidian developers played one good game: The Bards Tale 2004.
Spoiler alert!!!
Caleigh: Tell us my champion, whom do you choose?
The Bard: A very logical choice... Me.
Fionnaoch: You choose you?
Caleigh: What the hell does that mean? What kind of choice is that?
The Bard: As far as I'm concerned? An excellent one.
In the Wasteland every breath i take. I am.

Thank you Brian Fargo for the games i play.
Thank you Fields of the Nephilim for the music i hear.
