Ehh. No codex please. I'm not afraid of text when it's descriptive or otherwise in the context of what's happening in the game, but finding or unlocking dusty history books is a BIG turnoff to me. Background information should emerge as part of the action, not "Tonight's homework: read chapters 12-17."
