how can you _NOT_ implement this?
would make people play the whole thing again just to see the dialog options (or lack thereof)

Totally agree. But in Fallout this was when you had 1 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. in Intelligence. Then you'd only have those stupid dialog options.
Some details of that kind made that game awesome. An it will make this one awesome too.

To be honest it was good for barely ~10 minutes of shits and giggles, which is about the time the novelty wears off and you understood you gimped yourself so badly it's not really worth playing on(unless drug withdrawal).

the link i posted is from halfway through fallout, so it could have comic value through-out.
i agree that from a cost-effectiveness POV youve gimped yourself but i can see this appealing to players who've already finished the game a couple of times.

p.s: mentats ;)

Except Wasteland is a party-based RPG. Although you can choose to have whichever character you like speak with NPCs, most players will not be exercising the, uh, "retard option". At least not very often, since it's likely it will be inferior. "But I like to go pretendsies with my characters!", I hear you cry. Well, even pretend stories follow logic. Would it be logical to use someone who can hardly communicate with others as your squad's spokesperson? Certainly not.

Actually, I don't really care if the "retard option" exists or not. The thing is, it was more of a novelty in Fallout in the first place. It offered some lulz, but I'd rather they nail the rest of the game (of course, if it's in addition to stuff, I don't mind).

I think having this in a party-based game would make it even better. Of course, some characters would be better "spokespersons", but imagine this:
Your only character alive is the strongest, but dumbest one, and you have to ask for help to revive your partners or something. When you find someone and talk with him, you realize you can only talk with noises and grunts. That would make an epic story, and an unforgettable game.

A sufficiently stupid character should be able to come up with stupid ideas.

Yes, but probably the more smarter rangers in your party would talk anyways.

I love this idea but with a slight twist. Instead of the main char, it would be funny if the lowest int in the party (say under 5 or 6) did Forrest gumpisms and npcs always commented on your tart companion. For example, in a firefight he could yell SOMETHING BIT ME
