Batch 3 Titanium Clawer (WIP)

Postby Prime8brain » January 27th, 2013, 2:45 am

I like to show you the current status of my work on a Titanium Clawer.
Hope I didn't mess it up with my interpretation of the old 2D image.
It was lots of fun so far, I learned a lot.

Model is finished, even though it has 3600 tris, hope that's fine still, more than 200 tris are instanced :D

I have to work on the details and texture now.
Have a look at the image and tell me what you think about it. Texture is just temporary.

i like it :D

i think the textures look good if you stumble across this enemy in a scientific lab in the underground which wasnt destroyed. but if you stumble across this enemy in a devestated area, i think the enemy should also look a bit more "dirty" and "scratched" :)

Thank you for the replies!
That makes me think I should create some more stuff in the future.

But first thing first, I'm happy now with the texture and need to figure out how to bring this to the store now.

I liked the more corroded texture on the previous shot.

I agree with ButchinMelancholy, the previous metal textures looked better. This one is to clean, imho.

Thanks again for your comments.

I like the latest more of course, otherwise I wouldn't have changed it :D
I didn't like the "spots" on the previous one.

You are right that it still looks quite clean... if I have a little bit of time I create an alternative texture, since I submitted this one already, I don't know how changes work, but I can worry about that afterwards. ;)

As a philosophical question, would it be ok to sell the psd with spots as layers? In that case, the buyer would be free to use any composition of the layers. Inxile has already stated that they intend to change the colors of models, to get a consistent look.

I my case, I say hell yes. :)

Another thing, I forgot to say that your models rocks!

Okay, here is an alternative texture, I didn't had much time but it's just a lot of fun :D
Changed the colour scheme and made the poor guy as rusty as I dared, he would fall apart completely if I add more ;)

why not simply add two or three different textures to the pack? its a roboter, the model is always the same. but depending on its use and location it will maybe be more or less rusted and scratched.

i like the last texture in general, but the blue tone looks a bit weird. especially on the bottom left there are some things which looks like a graphic error to me

Awesome, but I agree with Tets about the blue stuff. :P
Otherwise, it's the best of the three to me, except I prefer the red paint.

why not simply add two or three different textures to the pack?

No way! As I learned from all the big publishers, I have to release the other textures as a DLC after the release for a lot of money.

would it be ok to sell the psd with spots as layers?

DLC right?

I will try to just update the current pack with new textures, not selling them separately.

I prefer the gray and red paint too :)
Think I do like 3 or 4 colour schemes and provide them as little rusty and very rusty versions (maybe InXile has to call him Rusty Clawer).
It's good practice for me.

Please give me some suggestions.

Some more colour schemes that came to my mind were:
1 olive or sand / dark gray (military like)
2 red / white (fire fighter)
3 orange / black (ABB production line robot)
4 white / red (ambulance... hm who wants a surgery done by this guy?)
5 pink / purple (Hello Kitty) <- Even if you want this, I wont do it!

Nearly forgot to mention the "blue graphic error" on the left side.
That is the secondary lighting in the test scene, it is bluish and the main is yellow-orange thats why there is a big difference in the hue.
Next time I create some shots in a more neutral light for comparison.

This last texture is by far the best!

DLC right?

I meant to have the diffuse texture be an psd, in the main package you are selling. Many textures in one so to speak.

@GunslingerStudio
Yes I understood, was just a silly joke with the DLC.
Actually I just put the finished texture file into the package, TGA in that case.

I figured out that is is very easy to update the package, I just added a couple of materials.
Quite the texture overkill :D
I call this finally finished.

Thanks again for the comments! :)

Looks like my Titanium Clawer is one of the assets D-Koy received in the last few days.
I'm happy to see that it came through and now shows up in the asset store: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/6882 :)

I'm still wondering if my approach to brake down the model into separate meshes was correct or not.
But obviously not that wrong :D
