Batch 3 - Another Slicer Dicer - WIP

Postby Reece » January 19th, 2013, 7:33 pm

Hi Everyone,

Here is my take on the SlicerDicer model. It is a work in progress. It has 3466 tris, normal map baked from a higher resolution version and an ambient occlusion map which I am using as a placeholder for the texture map.

Here is a screen grab from the Unity3d editor window:

Here is a screen grab from the game in play mode:

Here is a turn-table animation I rendered from within Blender3d:

YouTube Video: SlicerDicer

Feed back on how well this complies with the style guide or more generally would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Reece

Hey,

It looks real authentic to the concept apart from some little details which only add to it, so style wise there should be no problems. Nice job on the joints, and addititions :)

One minor thing is that the legs doesnt seem too sharp, i guess its the normal map causing it.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your comments. Next up is texturing - I think that will improve the look a lot :-)

Looking forward to seeing that thing rusty, with cracked glass and dried blood splatters all over.
Mostly harmless.

I have to say though, this is extremely close to the "example" art inXile gave. The intent of this crowdsourcing is to have you give your own re-interpretation, as they are already modelling off their own art and for things like the Slicerdicer would more need alternative, different-looking models. So y'know, give it your own twist, as you like. Creativity encouraged!

Looks great though

Hi Everyone,

Here is my textured version of the Slicer Dicer. The current tri count is 3438.

Unity3d edit window grab:

Unity3d game play grab:

For the texturing I have created a colour, normal and spec map. Here is a small version of the 2k Colour map:

A YouTube video showing the Slicer Dicer in the Unity3d editor and game views rotary style. :D

Next I'll see if I can add an animation rig and some basic moves before the deadline.

Your feedback/critique most welcome.

Congratulations on completing it:)

At first i thought it might be a bit too grimy/messy, but then i ventured thinking about its usualy workday and horrifiedly noted that it would probably be just this grim :)
Good job,

one thought: An eerie dim light emitting from the globe would do it wonders in adding colour to it. However adding that is up to the scripters i guess..Just imagine that this thing is peacefull laying abandoned in a dark base.. then power comes back to it, and the slowly intensing glow reveals its vicous sillouette. This light could also be it's indicator of it's condition..deep red when about to malfunction, sinister cold blue for operational, or acid green when detecting heavy irradiation.

Thanks for the feedback. Submitted to the store now :D

I managed to rig and animate a number of actions for idle, walk, run and a couple of attacks with its weapons. Time for a break!

Really good job, but I would have seen it taller though, like two times a man.

Thanks for your feedback. That was my initial thought too but I followed the proportion presented in the concept sketch. It could always be scaled :)

True, I didn't pay attention...
Perhaps it's the War of the Worlds influence that makes me think that way, but the choice feels a bit surprising to me, because what's the point of those legs if it's not to overhang the environment?
Anyway. ^^

I guess they're kind of robospiders. The original image from the game was worm's eye, so I always pictured them as being tall, too.
