Could anyone recommend a good guide to Wasteland 1?

Let's help those out who may not be familiar with the Wasteland world, or may be only familiar with Fallout. What was Wasteland?!

Could anyone recommend a good guide to Wasteland 1?

Postby HorseFD » March 18th, 2012, 1:24 am

I've just downloaded the original Wasteland and set up DosBox to play it, and I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a good guide to help me get the most out of the game.

You could try Per Jorner's walkthrough: http://user.tninet.se/~jyg699a/wasteland.html

Friends,

I suppose you could try to find a copy of the "Wasteland hints-book". I have a copy laying around somewhere in pretty good condition. I think it was one of those "invisible ink" things that you needed the special pen to reveal the answer. I wonder if it has any value today? Could I make a fortune on e-bay with it? Hmmmmm....

The invisible ink thing was King's Quest.

The Wasteland hint book was in the style of the Bard's Tale hint books and the Starflight ones, where they were written in first person by someone going through "the game". They were in character and rather well written. It gave you maps and told you how to solve everything, but it wasn't just a dry walkthrough. They're actually kind of fun to read.

Per Journer's Wasteland 'walk-through' is definately the best / most complete...

but the one by Ben Morgan was pretty good too... and much shorter -

Good Luck !!!

Thanks! Interesting introduction to the FAQ:

Okay, Wasteland is the greatest CRPG ever written. However, it seems
unlikely
that there will be a sequel or even a remake.

Unfortunately Ben Morgan never put 'dates' on any of his Wasteland 'solutions'... have seen a later version also (version 2.3a) which I'd guess was written sometime between 1995-1998.

After waiting nearly 10 years... guess he had given up hope !

Oh ye of little faith !!! (... but truthfully, hadn't most of us lost faith too ???)

Okay, Wasteland is the greatest CRPG ever written. However, it seems unlikely that there will be a sequel or even a remake. Electronic Arts is holding the rights to the game, as well as Bard's Tale, and they are currently sitting on
it, for what reason, no one knows."

Someone mention my name? I've been trying to get the various game guide sites to recognize the fact that I've updated my walkthrough several times since the version they have up, mostly to no avail. Not to fear, the most recent version is on my website (see my sig for the link).

Woah, don't remember an invisible ink thing! Link above is to the original WSG. I still have a copy.
Seriously though, it's way more fun to play without a walkthrough.

Whoa, cool, Ben! Next update to my site I'll make sure to add a link to your awesome walkthrough. I've been showing version 2.3 for many moons now, not knowing you had an active site with an updated version. Thanks for making yourself and site known!
