Wasteland 2 beta

Postby Faran Brygo » November 25th, 2013, 9:38 am

Good news... Wasteland 2 beta is nearing completion (really). We feel confident of it's release within 2.5 weeks as we nail down blocker bugs and dial up messaging to make things clear. I'm really looking forward to the feedback of our beta backers. Thanks for all your patience.

Additionally, today's screen shot shows an interior view of the central complex which is heavy on atmosphere and flows much differently than the outside locale:

HAPPY DANCE.

Thank you to you and your team for all of your hard work. The screenshot looks great!

Just want to check if there's any word on whether or not there going to be some time between Windows and Mac beta releases, or will they happen more or less simultaneously?

Okay, back to happily dancing. :D

Cool.

EDIT: Is that the Ag Centre? Seems to have come a long way from the small farming enclosure in wl1

Good news...you guys are making one the the potentially best games of all time.

There, now that I have sucked up; can we have another screen shot?

Please.

Thank you.

Good to finally have a date (kind of) for the Beta release. Looking forward to it.

Also, hey! New weapon reveal! Check out the M1-1 Carbine on the bottom left of the screen cap. Although at 6 damage with an AP cost of 6, it's quite possibly the least efficient weapon thus far revealed. ;)

EDIT - Ha, Crosmando beat me to it by literally five seconds. :P

Between Christmas, comet ISON, my daughter's birthday... and now Wasteland 2's beta, December is going to be one exciting month! Thank you, Mr Fargo for making this sequel a reality.

My 25 year wait is almost over...
My #1 suggestion to help improve Wasteland 2?

Ditch the current attribute & skill system, and bring back the Mercenaries, Spies, and Private-Eyes character advancement & skill mechanics.

Hmm... I must have missed something. According to update 32 beta-test was supposed to be launched in October. I have to admit, I just read the updates and don't follow developers on twitter, tumblr etc. So if you've already posted the news about shifting the date from October to December it would be just nice to share the link here.

THANK YOU for stopping by to give us this update. We're all just about biting ourselves. Restless!

I hope your talk about blocker bugs and dial up messaging helps pacify those who want status details. It's gibberish to me :)

When he says dialing up messaging he means talking to the customers more.

Uploaded some higher quality versions of the recent shots:
Desert encounter shot

AgCenter shot

No, we mean ingame messaging. That's always a tricky point in this stage. We know where we can go, what to do, what we can do, but does the game show this clearly enough to players?

Good to know, never doubted you guys for a second.

M-1 Carbine....YAY! this gives me hope for a lot of weapons and for some that I wanted but did not expect.

screenshot does look atmospheric and fantastic, cannot wait.

I knew something was going to happen today.

Heh, typos are always the last to go. Looking forward to the stacks and stacks of typo corrections from the beta.

Haha, I knew someone would pop in with this.

But yeah, it's a balance. I think we tend to err towards not telling you a lot and letting you explore and discover solutions, as well we should, but like...for example, I was talking with Brian earlier today about one pretty major location, which people do mention, but no one ever actually tells you where it is, or marks it on your map. That doesn't work so well. That's a typical "messaging" issue.

Yeah, I hate that.

NPC: Start at GIANT LANDMARK THAT EVERYONE KNOWS, then turn left, go down the trail, blah blah blah ...

Me: OK, where the fuck is GIANT LANDMARK?

NPC: I don't want to talk about that.
