Attribute Acronym From Update

Postby DarkTwinkie » December 5th, 2012, 11:49 am

Well shit....

It was well noted that we were trying to be a bit clever and come up with an acronym for the WL2 attribute system. It's not mandatory, but just seems so much cooler when talking about it. In order to do that, we tried to shoehorn in Expertise for the Agility/Dexterity attribute. I was hoping that the definition (which kinda worked...right?!? ) would suffice but it was met with quite a bit of deserved resistance.

Clever forum-goer Damoriel came up with the C.L.A.S.S.I.C. system. The only changes are to rename Perception to Awareness and Expertise to Coordination. Personally, we love it, and so far it looks like most of you do too. So here is a partially leading poll...

Chris Keenan

BN EDIT:

SPLICES
Strength
Perception
Luck
Intelligence
Charisma
Expertise
Speed

CLASSIC
Charisma
Luck
Awareness
Strength
Speed
Intelligence
Coordination

SPLICES and CLASSIC are both cool, appropriate acronyms, but I feel CLASSIC wins out due to the expertise to coordination switch. Just a more intuitive name for the skill.

Great job, Damoriel!

I have no idea what S.P.L.I.C.E.S means, and I judge neither do many others. C.L.A.S.S.I.C, on the other hand... Well, it sounds sort of classy, which I like.

I'd have gone for S.P.E.C.I.E.S somehow, but that may have sounded a bit too much like S.P.E.C.I.A.L...

I think, C.L.A.S.S.I.C. sounds much better. Can you explain what all this letters mean?

Personally I don't care for using the acronym setup, it looks too much like the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. from Fallout.

Definitely CLASSIC. Splices reminds me of Bioshock too much to tell the truth. classic system has a nice ring to it too.

C.L.A.S.S.I.C. if i have to choose one. The attribute selection is interesting and original.

S.P.L.I.C.E.S. doesn't make a great deal of sense, but I live the way it feels when you say it. It also looks intriguing when put on paper. Count me as part of the S.P.L.I.C.E.S. camp.

I like it, AND I like the change to Coordination.

I also think that acronyms are stupid, and I'm looking for a good acronym that expresses this opinion. ;)

YES!

Thank you!

The people have(or will, its not final yet :P ) chosen!

CLASSIC also fits a game better that is meant for those that loved the classic RPG´s. 8-)

On one hand, CLASSIC is pretty cool. On the other, it is a bit silly to care about acronyms...but what the hell, lets go with CLASSIC. I also agree Coordination is a better substitute. I wouldn't mind swapping it around with Charisma, though. That would feel more natural to me. You never really see Charisma leading a stat list. No big deal, though.

Awareness is a slightly different notion than perception... what is it supposed to define exactly?

Hey this is important, because it once again shows, that those devs care and we are once again enabled to help shape the game(and let something that just felt odd turn out great ;) ).

I'm not too concerned about the acronym, however, C.L.A.S.S.I.C. does rolls off the tongue a little better than S.P.L.I.C.E.S. Plus, I feel that CLASSIC is also a subtle gesture to the overall theme of Wasteland 2 being a classic RPG.

Props to the WL2 team for keeping us involved in the development process. It's the little things like this that make Wasteland 2, and everybody associated with it's development, a class act in my opinion. :)
