Wow I've been thinking of asking about this all day and here it is! The art looks good and the robot can fit into the Wasteland setting I think. It's no cybertrike or warrior mark 3 though. Which brings the question, Wasteland had many different types of synthetics - from androids to the mutated cyborgs in the sewers, to simple meson cannons rolling on tank wheels. Will we see such diversity with synthetics in WL2?

For a humanoid type synthetic though, this is great.

Now this I like. Suitably techy but with the hood etc to hide identity at a distance.
As a mod I am here to uphold the Forum Rules, feel free to pm me or the other mods with concerns.

My opinions however are my own. Mostly cause no one else wants them :)

Excellent!

It's got that right balance between humanity, 80's movie cybertech, and post-apoc. And it doesn't seem like a simple robot, but actually has some kind of personality inside. It truly resembles a synthesis of machine to the human theme, rather than a robot that happens to look human.

Figures I'd be listening to the new album by The Megas and looking at this.

Maybe we'll get a synthetic companion. Might even be him we see in the picture.

Very nice. Reminds me of the... um... trondiles? The dudes in the sewers that were humanoid, but had robot faces and were holding a robotic arm.

Sadly, it gets really dark towards the bottom which makes it hard to pick out details on the arm. I mean, I like the concept art, but they're all so dark. I have to squint and zoom to the point of pixellation to make out details.

That being said, I like that there's plenty of vegetation in the background, and the necklace (possibly religious icon?) is a very nice touch, as is the wear and tear on his clearly second-hand cloak. And the bits of building are good too. I like the details there with the water pipes and shut off valves.

It does appear our rangers will be running into a few of these synthetics:

Would you like to see one of the Synths from Wasteland 2? These guys are going to cause much grief for you. pic.twitter.com/zjLKBLha

I'd just like to give a big thank you to Andree for the work he has presented for WL2 (I believe this will be his final piece) I'm not normally a concept art type of guy when it comes to gaming, but I have honestly enjoyed each piece that has been shown and this synthetic is no exception.

I still have Andree's take on the original Wasteland cover on my desktop, and I would not be disappointed to see that as the actual WL2 box cover.
The biggest failure in the recent past is this assumption that the audience is not smart.Too much effort is being spent making it dummy proof..all the clues are being held right in front of their nose. The exploration and journey is the reward

The eyes give it a 'gray alien' feel too it, which makes me think it's going to probe the Rangers with a proton axe.

Gotta wonder:
Who made this synthetic?
When was it made?
_Why_ was it made?
Are there more where it came from?
Are there any new synthetics still being made?
How are "fueling", maintenance and repairs done?
Who or what is doing the servicing?

The first question in my head was: "So... whats the key for?" I don't know if it is one, but I assumed. What does it open god damn it!?!?

I've got the same questions than you buddy !
The difference between a good Ranger and a bad Ranger ?
The bad Ranger, he sees some mutant and he shoots, but you know, he's a bad Ranger.

The good Ranger, he sees some mutant and he shoots ! But he's a good Ranger !!

But what if it one of a set of keys that is needed to unlock the interface device that lets you reprogram the directives on which the hive mind of the synthetics are based? What then? The power we could wield. The good we could do, in terrible ways. I want it... Give it to me! If you don't want to handle the power give it to me, so that it can be put to use you puny little...
I got excited, sorry... just thinking... it could be a key. It could be a key I want to have... maybe. definitively...my precious...

its the first concept art i actually like. would be great if the robots holding a cross instead of a key. as if now robots use christian religion to supress mankind. actually that would be an insane plot.a huge dick with a firm set of balls hanging between the legs would sure be funny too.

I love the artwork. It gives off a weird kind of aura that feels.. almost human but not quite. Looks like they could be a real problem in the Wasteland since they prolly dont need much maintenance/food/energy. Looking forward to those things in the game.
And is this really the last concept art that will be shown to us?
Anyway i like the pic (and its atmosphere!!) a lot and hope for some more in the future.
Keep up the good work.

Hey, I just wanted to pop in and give a big, massive THANK YOU to both Brian Fargo (& co) and to all you awesome Wasteland2 fans for all your support and positive feedback! You've all made this a very special project for me, and I seriously can't wait to play this game.

Now that fella definitely looks like companion material.
They just can't(and won't! :P ) ignore those dialogue and story possibilities of a rogue(or whatever) Synth joining our Rangers... and you never know if he will betray you for his own "kind". *muhahahahhahhahahaha*

Great bit of concept art there, it really does hit all the right notes. And whatever he is holding from around his neck is very interesting.

Awesome art man. Awesome.

Not only it is excellent technically, not only it really nails the atmosphere of the game but it also points to a new, improved Wasteland setting. Not changed, not turned into something else - improved.
Conceptually and thematically.
I really, really hope that game design will keep as close as possible to the ideas, the atmosphere, and concepts these superb illustrations just ooze all over.

Its really a shame we cant have you longer, doing concept and illustration art for the entirety of the game.
