Wasteland 2 Kickstarter Drive ends, $3.04M raised

The Wasteland 2 Kickstarter Drive just ended, closing in at $2,933,147. The Paypal Drive (which will not close until later today for the Johnny-come-latelies among us) adds $107,152. This puts the total funds raised at $3,040,299.

While Wasteland 2 did not end up beating Double Fine Adventures, it raised significantly more than most of us were predicting beforehand. It has hit all of the funding goals it set for itself, and because of that added Linux and Mac versions, Russian and Polish localizations, Chris Avellone design, Obsidian tools and a modkit to its development goals.

It was barely more than a faint candle a few weeks ago. The candle of hope that allowed us to find our way home in the dark, desolate desert of computer gaming. With each and every one of us, the light has grown stronger. The candle soon became a torch and the torch soon started to shine brightly, fueled by the hopes of all those gathering in its light.

Today, the torch will embark on its journey towards the promised land. May it not only continue to shine, but light the skies ablaze, so that we will never have to live in the darkness again.

No pressure Brain We do not expect a lot from you. Resurrect the genre, deliver us to the promised land, solve the issue of world hunger and while you are at it.. you could really do something about world peace as well.

I have to admit, for a while there I honestly didn't think we were going to hit $3m but I woke up this morning and was very surprised. Great job everyone. Now we've all got a very long 18 months until we can, "explode like blood sausages".

If nothing else, I expect the drama and resultant flamewars from all this kickstarter business to be epic.

And while it might not be history in the making, I really hope that this and the success of Double Fine Adventure WILL change the perspective of some people about the way games are made today, the path the industry is taking, and maybe it might even modify the way *some* idiots in a suit view "the market"

That was only a contingent against it not hitting the minimum funding. You could consider it an "emergency budget" now in case the game hits any major unforeseen delays, but it will not be a part of the base budget.

Give it a while, drake. If it bounces Kickstarter will ask for a correction. Don't worry, you'll have 7 days to fix any problem if it shows up. But mostly just give them some time, they don't pull from the credit cards instantly, it can take a while.

Yeah, but WL2 will have a significantly bigger "rewards" slice than DFA did, they offered much more in the way of physical goodies.
