It's a cool picture, all right. But my main thought when I look at this is:

COLOURS! YAY! COLOURS! NOT JUST BROWN!

(Thanks!)

Yeah, looks pretty... "alien". Maybe it's some SKYNET / CYBRID language-code that the Machines have printed onto their units?

I'm not familiar with the robots from WL1, so for all I know they're all from Vault Zero or they were some kinda worker-bots that were sitting around and then evolved guns after the apocalypse. That said, unless they are being actively produced or maintained, you'd think that they'd eventually run out of ammo or at least have varying degrees of ammo left... unless they were stocked up prior to the apocalypse.. designed for it even...

Also, I hope (well, "hope" is the wrong word) that the tail can move around, so that maybe the Scorpitron can really get the "high ground" with its tail gun -- meaning that any nearby cover is basically useless. Hell, I hope bullets go through crappy walls/cover too -- but that's probably for someone to talk about in a different thread.

Looks like it has 3x miniguns and some other sort of weapon too. I'm not familiar with what it had in WL1...

</rampant-speculation>

EDIT: As with [everyone?] else, I'm also looking forward to seeing nature retaking parts of the landscape. Maybe seeing a dead landscape could be a sign that you're walking into irradiated areas (even if you don't have a Geiger counter)

The scorpitron look menacing. But as some others, I am equally psyched to see the overgrown urban landscape. I hope it is going to be featured in the game!

So awesome the picture...
I really like the concept of overgrown cities... always thought about an rpg story where the players fight their way through overgrown skyscrapers with spears and bows, while guns and machines would be considered artifacts :D
and the scorpitron looks like a badass enemy!

This is a track ive been listening a lot last days, especially in the morning...

And it just fits this illustration soooo much. I mean, just let it play it the background while putting the illustration all over screen.
Please send it over to the great artists mr A.W and mr Mark Morgan for me.
I think they might like it :)

Well, I'm not sure it looks like a "tank with an armored warrior," but it certainly fits the in-game image.

Scorpitron 2.0 ... skeet, skeet, skeet.

Upped my pledge to $75. I think it'll be worth it to get into the beta.

Drool wrote:Yes, it's great to see some green. And a daytime shot. This is the sort of thing that makes Wasteland different than other post-apocalyptic offerings. There's life and color.

And you can't blame it on technical limitations or a lack of color palette now.

Yes! This is a fantastic and totally believable look for the Wasteland that's true to it's predecessor. Very nice work Andree.

This is pretty freaking cool. :D

I like the whole picture. If the game looks like that I would be happy.

Edit:
Why does concept art always have to be so much better than in-game art? With 2D sprites and today's tech, maybe we could have games that finally look like the concept art; it would be a childhood dream come true.

Time, probably. You can spend ages and ages lovingly crafting a piece of concept art. Harder when you've got a few thousands assets that are due yesterday.

awesome image, I would love that for the poster rather then the ranger one, I wonder if we can have a choice of posters now? as that tank really does look menacing

RUIN's a cool project.

Dunno why you'd think it specifically was used as inspiration tho. It's hardly the first or only piece with overgrown ruins in a post-apocalypse.

Azriel wrote:but it mostly had the city streets filled with burnt bloated corpses. The bones of people could last a few years to many many centuries depending on the situation.

The situation is those bones were burned; they'll stick around a year or two at best. Exposure will obliterate anything under the sun in short order. Maybe a fragment here and there but you wouldn't see it in that depiction. Also, with that much green, anything organic would have been mulched by trees and ants to be reused.

The only place you can safely preserve anything past one hundred years is underground/encasement. So maybe if you walk into one of the lower level garages of an office building you'll find some; they probably won't be from the blast, though, maybe survivors who froze to death during the short nuclear winter or even more recent visitors who fled the Scorpitron but were too injured to make it.

Hollywood has us thinking remains can stick around for eons when the truth is quite the opposite.

Looks great.

The green and shrub-filled cityscape reminds me of the history channel's 'Life After People'. I hope the dev's take a few leaves out of their book, they had some really interesting ideas about urban decay and the weird and wacky ways animals might evolve after humans are taken out of the picture.
