And here is the link to that kickstarter campaign: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouy ... me-console

Looks like the Wasteland and doublefine kickstarter records are a thing of the past!

Since BF is officially endorsing the OUYA, one question comes to mind: will Wasteland 2 come to the UOYA console?

EDIT: I just saw that other thread :)

They never had the record, that weird gimmicky watch did.

This is just another overhyped gimmick.

WasteLandian, I'm really not seeing your point. No one is complaining about this not competing directly with consoles. The question is: what does it add that PC/mobiles don't already?

And then the real question is, how can they realistically release this 8 months from now? How can they hope to have a big enough install base for developers to be interested? The current install base is 35K, that's nothing. And then they killed it by forcing all projects to have a free-play component, so a ton of users will just use it to play free games, which reduces the install base's usefulness even further. There's a ton wrong with this project, way more than there's right.

Already answered in the other thread. In fact, I'm just going to go ahead and merge. The answer is no. Wasteland 2 is only coming out to the promised platforms. Only near or after release can they consider further ports.

I find that watch to be way more overhyped than the Ouya.

A very good question. I'd say what it has over the PC is the fixed hardware spec, therefore it is a console. What does it have over the mobile is the big question for me. The Ouya is using similar architecture to current mobiles and by next year would be considered a past-gen CPU/GPU. The main advantage is the same answer: fixed hardware spec. This can only be an advantage if developers can, like with other consoles, devote their energies towards optimizing their games for the hardware. Is this even possible to do on an Android OS, to optimize past the OS layer and directly access the hardware to eke out as much performance as possible? And if you do so, doesn't this require breaking the Ouya GUI and market access?

Besides that, what it provides over mobiles are ports: full USB and HDMI; and a controller.

Without more details before the end of the KS funding date I'm not investing, either.

I would think that if the Ouya becomes a solid reality it would be around the time when WL2 is getting ported for tablets, which should happen after initial release of both the game AND the mod kit.

Yes it is, this is pretty much how ever 3D game on Android works.

You mean full size ports? Because plenty of phones have miniHDMI and miniUSB and yes they are fully functional. I'm not even sure how much of and advantage USB is. I would assume they would use bluetooth for a wireless controller.

Speaking of, D'toid and Kuchera, D'toid's got an Uhrman interview where she responds to Kuchera's criticisms.

"Responds".

They seem like spirited, engaged people in interviews, but I can't help but feel they're in way over their heads. I've never seen them respond to criticism head-on, just rattle off some platitudes and talk about how amazing it all is. Nothing in that QA comes even remotely close to addressing any of Kuchera's main concerns.

She did say they have a working test system. It is what was playing some game in the video apparently.
Of course "I" could say I have a working version that I am playing right now. ;)

What does a working test system even mean?

There are plenty of Tegra 3 Android systems available for purchase right now, any one of which could be a "test system."

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed by that interview. Instead of addressing the very valid criticisms Kuchera raised, she blames him for not "getting it". That's the absolute worst way to respond to criticism. It communicates supreme arrogance and naïvete, not confidence in your product. It says, "I am a Special Snowflake, and you are not allowed to get in the way of my Glorious Destiny with your petty concerns."

On the other hand, one could say the same of the way the big platform holders have responded to similar concerns. Is the best-case scenario here "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss"? Or does that mean she's the one type of person who's cut out to do this? Curiouser and curiouser...
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Ouya?

Postby calufrax » July 29th, 2012, 1:21 am

With the Ouya kickstarter http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console going so well, the Unity3D engine appearing to run on Android architecture such as the console will have, and Brian Fargo's quote on their page, what's the chance of a build of WL2 for Ouya?
