GrimDawn now on Kickstarter

Postby matthewfarmery » April 17th, 2012, 4:50 am

just a heads up, the ARPG Grimdanw has now started a KS page, they are asking for $280,000, to hire more devs, as many are doing full time jobs for other companies,

the game is taking a while because of that, but the game unlike many KS projects is pretty much there, the only issue is content, they only have a couple of people full time on the game, rest are part time, if they meet their funding goal, this will allow for more devs to come in full time, and allow the game to be out a bit quicker

I say this game will certainly beat D3, so if you are interested in playing a good ARPG and not interested in crappy D3, then please check out the page

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn

and support the project

the GD homepage is here in case anyone wants to drop by and take a look

http://www.grimdawn.com/index.php

the funding is doing really well, and at the time of writing has achieved $8,868 in just a few hours, so its really doing well

anyway just a heads up

It's just a shame they won't accept paypal, but I can understand their decision. Well, it's still a while until the game comes out.

it was paypal that didn't like GD, they used paypal in the beginning, when they first started taking pre orders, but paypal thought that the game and company was too risky, even though there weren't any cancellations during the period, so Crate were banned from using paypal ever again. which is very strange as WL2 uses paypal, so is shadowrun returns, I think paypal needs a good kicking up the rear if you ask me,

anyway more info on why paypal can't be used, can be found on this thread

http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1880

not sure if the Crate devs have gone back to paypal or not? as it just discrimination if they banned their service from been used by Crate, while other companies are allowed to to use it, pretty damn unfair so its not a case of Crate won't use it, its a case of can't use it as they are been banned from using paypal

not really sure if anything can be done to reverse paypal's decision over this, but still, at least they have amazon payment on side, and hopefully more publicity to boot

the funding is doing really well so far, I think they will easy reach the goal within a week or less I think

should be fixed now, seems that long urls in the editor get broken up, and you need to apply url tags to get it working, edited the link, so is working now, sorry about that, I didn't see that the link was broken, I posted the same info on a few forums and depending on the type of bulletin board, some add url tags to urls, or they don't or they completely mess up large complex ones

anyway all fixed now, currently the funding is at $133,923, I really hope they reach their funding level and go beyond that, I have high hopes for the game, so a couple more devs to speed things up would be shear awesome, been waiting for the game for a long time now, have high hopes for it and feel it will be far better then D3 and TL2 combined

funding is currently at $168,264, it could have been a bit better, but at least its consistent, there will be some more updates in the coming days and the home page of the KS page has been updated with more images

so looking mighty fine, hope the devs release more stuff soon to keep the moment and interest going, but I think they will reach their goal, its a pity about not been able to paypal, I wish they would change their minds, maybe if more people tweet their twitter page and give them a good hammering they might, still don't understand why they banned Crate when others can and do happily use their service, just not fair at all, and there are people who want to pledge but can't,

just wanted to let everyone know, the funding level for GD has been reached, with 10 days to go

currently they are at $291,606 but the funding level has increased a fair bit once it did hit the goal, and there is a new update as well (but possibly because its was late, its only for backers) but I will post what it says here

Update #10: 100% Funding achievement unlocked!

Wow, what a crazy day. I'm writing this at 3am and I think it has taken this long for the reality to finally sink in that we actually passed our funding goal. Partially, I just haven't even had time to think about it, I've been busy with so many things, including the creation of this video.

I'm incredibly excited to be able to move into a new phase of Grim Dawn development, with more people working full-time, in the same space were real creative collaboration can happen. I think it will really show in the final game. Also, as much as I tried to convey my excitement in the video, I was also very tired, so if I didn't do a good job, please know I certainly feel it inside. ; )

Oh, I should also mention, I received an email today from an editor of a well-known gaming site that actually lives in Massachusetts. He's going to be dropping by my place tomorrow to do an in-person interview and also play a bit of Grim Dawn (hopefully it behaves). I think this will be cool because its the first time you guys will be able to get an outsider's perspective on Grim Dawn. Hopefully, this will also get us some of the publicity we've been hoping for to speed us toward our stretch goals.

Okay, time for some sleep, tomorrow is another busy day!

and the video showing a new class
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2MLTlDHUgo

love the looks of the new class, even if its still early in development

anyway, now onward and upward, and see how high this thing can go

Being a huge fan of Titan Quest, I cannot wait for something like this, especially with the promise of it being completely DRM-free and so on, it could be a serious contender for the less-than-stellar Diablo 3 that is just around the corner.

Really, really looking forward to this and tremendously happy to see them reach their set goal.

their funding level is currently at $372,708 and four days to go, I think it would be possible for them to reach 400k now, alos there are a few new stretch goals announced

$350k

Dual wielding pistols (feature tech and new animation set)

$360k

25 extra pieces of unique item art

$375k

Additional end-game boss monster (total of 2) lurking somewhere out there in the darkness for you to find...

$385k

25 more pieces of unique item art

$400k

A new environment set that you'll get to decide on. We'll create a thread on the Grim Dawn forums to discuss ideas with fans, then select the best ideas and create a poll for you to vote the one you want most.

$412k

2 additional monster types (models and animations)

$425k

Three large, high-level dungeons, each with its own theme and named hero monster. The dungeon entrances will randomly appear in the world.

$450k

Savage two-handed melee weapons (includes animations and all the art required to create an entirely new item type)

$465

Additional end-game boss (total of 3) to encounter in some dark and dangerous corner of the world.

$480k

New survivor town hidden in the remote wilderness for you to discover. Will include a new faction group and new quest-lines to unlock once you've gained their trust.

and a new music track has been released too

but I would agree that this would be a massive contender for D3, Im not getting D3 anyway, sure there will be plenty that do, but I personalty think the game will be short lived

by the time GD is out, I wonder how many people will still be playing D3 and so make the switch?

but if many og GD stretch goals are met, this will be one awesome game, even before the first expansion is released

exciting times
