I feel like since we've seen the rangers and the scorpitron w/background, lets go for breadth...

+1 for mutant veggie farm
+1 for living city/settlement (if there are any)
+1 for temple of the mushroom cloud

-1 on Ranger HQ, I can't imagine you'd spend much time there / can't imagine that it defines the scope/mood/feel of the game

I would go with this one, would be nice to see some settlement if it's huge ruined city or some smaller settlmenet, I don't care which one of them it is.

Since we allready have this one nice art about rangers so thats covered for time being, at least for now. :P

Something new and creative , something that wasn't in WL and is designed specifically for WL2. Something that makes me say" oh! This is interesting" rather than " yep! I remember that one!"

I think the point of concept art is helping people understand things that are hard to describe with words like a new enemy, city or character. Redesigning stuff is cool, but it shouldn't dominate the all the concept arts. We want WL2 concept arts, not WL1 nostalgic art!

Seconding this; give us something that demonstrates the new stuff we can look forward to. WL2 is not just going to be WL1 with a graphics upgrade.

I want to see "new" WL2 art at some point but first I think that WL2 should be cemented in the backstory of WL1. To that end:

I would like more landscapes/mood to start with. I'd also be interested to see some of the original mutants inserted into the scenes - Desert Dweller (my avatar) comes to mind... :)

I want to know what day to day life is like. Really any of the original locations would work but these spring to mind:

Agricultural Center (day to day life)

from paragraph 84, partial description:

In the shadow of an enormous satellite tracking dish stands the old man. Over 100 years old, he is still vigorous and bright of eye, although he rambles incoherently at times. ... Frowning, deep in thought, he stares at what appear to be the remains of a 15-foot tall carrot. ... The old man studies your weapons, and tells you that he doesn't think your peashooters will do any good against the armored varmints, but that you're welcome to try. ...

Highpool (has it grown since WL1 from the few dormitories that were there before?)
Needles (a good medium sized settlement)
Darwin Village and the highly radiated region around it

These would showcase some of the more unusual parts of the setting, especially the opportunity to show tech:
Sleeper Base (+internal, cloning equipment, etc)
Guardian Citadel (have the rangers or some other faction occupied it now? Did some guardians survive and still occupy it?)

I would also love to see the suggestion of pseudo chitin armor and some of the more advanced things you find in the original.

Mainly I really want to feel that it is uniquely wasteland. What that is is sort of hard to describe and I'm not even exactly sure myself, but when you see it you know what it is.

There's just one thing I am a little worried about, which is that I fear Wallin's art lacks a bit of temper for a universe like Wasteland. It is a bit too much "crystalline" and soft in my opinion, and lacks of crudity or wickedness in a way.
See what I'm looking for (dark here, 'cause it's Fallout :P ):

And I would like the characters, guns, armors, etc to have as much temper as they had in those games. Not too much photo-realistic, just credible and organic.

As I already said, I would like to see some more basic settings yet, to have a better feel of the mood, but then something strong, whether it would be another Wasteland 1 revisiting or some new original piece. ;)
What will change the world in the first place is not what we will do, but what we will refuse to do yet...

Haha. It's very funny you'd bring up that piece of art, specifically.

Agreed... suggested this on the first page of the thread.

I still think it would be ideal to do a combat scene between a new concept and an old one.

It would give the feeling that this is the true sequel to Wasteland, while showing that there will be new and interesting things to discover... and then explode like a blood sausage.

I have this picture in my mind, where two Rangers are standing beneath a dirty canal in a city and they try to fish a dead body out of the water. context and rest of the picture is up to you.

-Something that shows environment and setting such as one of the classic locations like the Ag Center or Needles. Maybe Vegas depicting the newer, rebuilt parts of Vegas against the old abandoned Vegas. Will Wasteland 2 be a decaying world or one where mankind is beginning to rebuild?

-Charmaine

-An action shot of rangers vs a classic Wasteland enemy. I want to be able to say, "hey they are fighting a ___________!"

-Weapons.

If the Ranger HQ is a big part of that then it should definitely be in the pipeline for concept art. If there are other key parts of the lore and experience of Wasteland then those, too, should be in the pipeline.

Seconded.

I'd also like to see something with a lighter palette. Dark images look very post-apocalyptic, but it's a desert. It'll be bright in the daytime.

  • Wastelanders doing something relate-able in the wasteland setting (playing with kids, on a date, etc)
  • Some of the more impressive enemies
  • Some different states of player characters
  • One of the most "wealthy" types of places found in the wasteland

i think it would be nice to see some transport. Trucks, buggy, bikes or maybe even trains or helicopters - some pieces of that must be saved after apocalypse.
