To clarify some stuff: Obsidian will not do any programming. InXile is doing all the programming for this title. InXile is getting them in for design work and licensing tools.

Getting back to hardcore is part of the point, yes, but this isn't a retro title, it's still going to make use of advancements made the past decades where it makes sense.

And Brian has already explained this will be a more narratively driven game than Wasteland was.

Don't get me wrong, I love what the guys at Obsidian produced (well mostly before they became Obsidian anyway), but it has a very different vibe and kind of fun I enjoyed from early games like Wasteland. I would really prefer if Obsidian went on to make its own kickstarter.

Yeah, I'm afraid there will be too many cooks that will spoil the broth.

As EcoGuy said, it is just a few talent addition that come to contribute, but inXile is still the master of this project. And they said a general "Obsidian" because it likely comes along a contract that will allow them to take advantage of useful tools to craft the game. ;)

This is not all about the shape...

If Brian Fargo thinks he need Obsidian - he probably right. He is a pro.

"Also important to note that their contribution is purely in design. We are doing all the code here."

Brian mailed this to the codex :)

The shape of what?

Now I'm starting to get nervous. Oh well. 17 days left to retract money if this starts going in a direction I didn't understand it to be at the beginning.

This is fantastic news, I sure hope this surpasses 2.1 million - I have a lot of respect and entertainment value out of Obsidian's work that in many ways have been hampered by Publishers, sound familiar to anyone? At least some of the attention that has gotten Wasteland 2 a few backers has come from Mr Chris Ave, so to say he is interested in contributing to this project in a respectful fashion would be an understatement <3

You're starting to talk about some FPS/RPG like if Obsidian only did that and only knew that which is absolutely wrong. They have a know-how which goes far beyond New Vegas for which they had to follow Bethesda's instructions basically by the way.
Don't mix up things.

Well, then I admit I am at fault for not paying as much attention as I should. Nevertheless, I can't help but feel disappointed.

No, I mean how a party-based game could possibly not care about characters interactions and relations? This is something Brian Fargo has specified in numerous interviews by the way.
I understand what you mean by the different feeling those different games gave you, but that's it, they will not make the same things for different games, trust them. ;)

People who are worried about this: Remember that Chris A regretted making Planescape Torment too much of a dialogue-centric game at the expense of gameplay.
