Perhaps you’ve heard a rumor…

First off, I’d like to welcome you to the development forum for Wasteland 2… after all, it’s because of you that we are even here right now. I’ve been wanting to get back to this franchise for over 20 years and the entire reason Fallout exists today is because I was unable to make a sequel back in the day, and after I cleared up the legal issues we were not able to get publishers excited unless it was a potential “billion dollar franchise” or they just didn’t want the kind of gameplay experience that classic role playing games offered. It was frustrating!

Fortunately, we are in a different era with thanks to fan based funding and digital distribution. We have a chance to move the power back to the developers, allowing us to make genres of games that publishers just would not support. I had completely given up on making a Wasteland sequel until just recently, and I can tell you the last few weeks have been a blast re-connecting with the fans and working on designs. It reminds me of why I was excited about the games business to begin with.

Wasteland was an epic game changer among the RPG genre and did a wonderful job of creating a sandbox type world that served up morality decisions that players were not used to. Even on recent press tours around the world ranging from Europe to Asia I always without exception would be asked about a Wasteland sequel. Clearly this was a game that resonated with the fans and now for the first time there is hope.

Wasteland 2 will be 100% fan funded game through the Kickstarter website in just a short while. We know people are naturally concerned with fan funded projects but the input we receive here will help shape what Wasteland 2 becomes. Please “like” our Facebook page, be part of the forum, follow our updates here and follow me on Twitter. And we are not just looking to bring Wasteland followers to our forums but fans of all the classic RPG’s who want to bring this genre back. When I was at Interplay we produced and financed some of the finest RPG’s made, titles you may remember like Bard’s Tale, Dragon Wars, Stonekeep, Fallout, Icewind Dale, Baldur’s Gate and more. Nothing would please me more than to get back and really show what can be done without interruption from a publisher.

Ultimately it will be up to the supporters on whether the long awaited sequel to Wasteland gets made. I encourage you to get involved and spread the word by tweeting and promoting this wherever you can…. Let’s get this done!

  1. I’m advised this site as a result of my personal relation. I’m not guaranteed whether or not it submit will be created by them as no one notice this kind of given in relation to my trouble. You are amazing! Thanks a lot!

  2. Tremendous things here. I’m very satisfied to look your article. Thanks so much and I am taking a look forward to touch you. Will you please drop me a mail?

  3. I like the helpful info you supply on your articles. I’ll bookmark your weblog and take a look at once more here regularly. I’m reasonably certain I will be informed many new stuff right right here! Best of luck for the next!

  4. I’ve been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours Perhaps you’ve heard a rumor… | The Wasteland Chronicles. It is pretty worth enough for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be much more useful than ever before.

  5. Unfortunately, I wasn’t into gaming when wasteland was first released, frank;ly wasn’t even born yet. But this games looks really good. And with so much fan funding, I have really high hopes! This could be a game that really shows game developers a new age has arised. I so wish I could play this right now.

  6. Nice, although I didn’t find out about this until after funding had ended I would like to make 1 small request: Eventual console support (just the main game), the modern era of console gaming is an RPG wasteland, either the great games are all clones of eachother, re-releases from older systems or not attached to their roots at all. I’d play the heck out of Ultima III & IV (nes remakes if they hit PSN), Wasteland too! But they don’t make games like that for newer consoles… I wonder why, do big companies hate dialogue based decisions?

  7. Any chance of getting the original Wasteland (perhaps for a small fee) so we can get into the mood for Wasteland 2?

  8. Hallelujah! My dusty old Apple IIc was making funny noises last night and just now I realized why! Wastland 2!!! The hours I spent cleaning up the Vegas sewers and causing a full-scale meltdown at the Church of the Servants of the Mushroom Cloud are some of the finest memories of my childhood. No game has quite taken the place of the original Wasteland, and it’s so exciting to know this project is up and running. Also, to see so many of my heroes from the 80′s working on it virtually ensures a great end-product. I really can’t wait. Thank you for making my day!!!!

  9. Where to begin? This project is amazing to me on so many different levels. Not only will I be getting Wasteland 2, but I take this as a personal vindication of my inner geek who has been starving for MORE MORE MORE since the first days of Temple of Apshai and was never satisfied until Wasteland, slowing down to savor the meal, then Fallout when it became available… My inner geek thrives on post apocalyptic RPG’s done right and this franchise and its successors (Fallout) are the only ones to completely satisfy my inner geek. (an honorable mention, of course, to other titles by the same folks. They were satisfying snacks, but not the entrees I crave)

Thank you Misters Fargo and Avellone and those that have come before for all you have given me and thank you, the community for vindicating my inner geek and sending the message loud and clear that it is not alone.

  10. I loved the fall out series, and always wanted to see that style revisited with the same vision and character that made those games so memorable.

This is the first kick starter project I’ve ever funded and I’m more than happy to do so. So excited to see this come together!

  11. Hi!

Do you plan to increase the number of 250$ backers?

I would gladly pledge that amount for the autographed CE, but 500$ is way too much for that.

    Regards,
    Bandris

  12. good luck!
    go big and smart !
I get a metalic taste from the games poured out today: 95% actors and graphics and no longer than a couple of days gameplay.
I’d still play baldur and fallout of old i f I didn’t know them by heart :) !

  13. I loved wasteland, in fact i think i have bought many copies over the years and still play it occasionaly when time permits. This project makes me extremly happy and I wish you all the best in the world.

  14. I missed Wasteland when it came out. I played the hell out of Fallout 1 and 2, and knew it was the “spiritual successor” to this other game I’d never heard of, but that was as close as I got. I have tried the original last year and maybe it’s just too long and too old now (for me!) because I cannot hang any nostalgia on it and didn’t get into it. I cannot help but feel a little jealousy towards those who can remember playing it all those years ago who do remember it when it was still new!

However, that having been said, I have pledged money that can be taken as a love of the original by proxy, because without it I would not have had Fallout to play. Turn based combat RPG in a post-apocalyptic setting. Bring it on!

  15. Thanks for sharing your ideas listed here. The other issue is that whenever a problem develops with a personal computer motherboard, individuals should not go ahead and take risk associated with repairing that themselves because if it is not done right it can lead to permanent damage to the complete laptop. It’s usually safe just to approach your dealer of your laptop for your repair of that motherboard. They’ve got technicians who have an knowledge in dealing with laptop computer motherboard difficulties and can make right analysis and perform repairs.

  16. You are in point of fact a just right webmaster. The web site loading speed is incredible. It seems that you’re doing any distinctive trick. Moreover, The contents are masterwork. you have done a great process on this matter!

  17. That’s unbelievable! Fallout, especially Fallout 2 is my most favorite game of all times, and I’m so happy to hear something similar is going to be made!

It would be super neat to have a newsletters subscription option to watch the project.

Also, it’s probably too early to ask just now, but will it be cross-platform? Any chance to play it on Linux?

Anyway, thanks for all your work on all these great games and thank you for choosing such a funding model, as a great fan of Interplay’s Fallout I’ll definitely will support the project.
